Hi,
i am an eventer normally but have a middle aged Tb horse whom I would like to consider trying to get some qualifying scores on for my bronze medal. I’ve read that you have to get two scores above 60% at 1, 2, and third level. Does this have to be all on one horse, on multiple horses, or within a set time frame? Not sure my current horse would be a third level horse. Anything else that you would like to share is appreciated!
Two scores at each level, and at any test of each level. No time limit, and you can use any horse for the scores. You do need different judges on the tests at each level. The same judge cannot give you both of your first level scores. My horse did have her USDF lifetime number, but she did not need her USEF number. All of the rules are on the USDF site, but even after reading them, I was a bit confused and wanted to make sure I was doing it right. Good luck and have fun! It took me three years at rated shows, on a horse I trained from being unbroken to my bronze.
Yes, you will need 2 scores of 60% or above at 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels. At each level, the scores must be from 2 different judges for 2 different rides. ( In other words, if you ride in a class that has two judges, your score only counts as one score even if both judges mark you above 60%)
You can qualify on any number of horses, and there is no time limit.
You will have to be a USDF member ( PM or GM) at the time the scores are earned. Your horse will need a USDF HID number or lifetime registration.
The USDF Member Guide lists all the pertinent info on pages 18 & 20 (USDF Rider Awards).
Welcome to the dark side!
Haha…the dark side! Good one.
“Dark side”… I grew up in hunterland so dark side definitely! Haha
Just to clarify - you don’t need any USEF membership for either horse or rider for scores to count? The horse can have either USDF HID or lifetime membership?
No, you and your horse must be Members/Registered. Horse can have a HID or lifetime registration, You can be a Participating member or a member of a local chapter GMO.
TankDiveGirl - “No, you and your horse must be Members/Registered.” Must be registered with USEF? Up thread someone said that they did not need their horse to be registered with USEF, so I am fairly confused!
For USDF awards, they don’t have any requirements for USEF recording or even membership. All you need is what will get you into the showring. If you have a registration for your horse with USDF, then you will get a free HID number from USEF. (It doesn’t work the other way)
If you want to do regionals, though, you need at least an annual USEF recording.
I had my USDF membership and my horse had her USDF number while we were getting scores towards my bronze. I had my USEF membership as it was a wash financially entering shows, my horse Did Not have her USEF number. We were only going for scores towards my bronze.
