Usdf convention

I tried to follow some of the online stuff but I ended up missing several of the programs. I did watch the meet the candidates video of the two presidential candidates, Kevin and Steven.
However I just saw a post on Facebook that George Williams has now been elected president? So I wonder what happened?
There is nothing on the usdf website not even any minutes or anything.

I have no answer to your question but would like to lament that they did not opt to post the sessions for on-demand replay. I’m at my second (professional, non-horse) conference in one week, and both have offered streaming options for virtual attendees and the option to replay ~ 85% of their sessions for up to 90 days after the conference, so the technology is there. I think this is a tremendous option that I hope continues after covid. I wish USDF would have done the same, since I work during the week, and most of my vacation days were spent on actually attending horse shows over the season (including regionals). An on-demand replay option would be a nice service to their hard-working amature members who otherwise keep their shows afloat.

(Sorry for complaining, but I think it needed to be said.)

I guess he got nominated from the floor and won the vote by a large margin.

That’s exactly what happened. He had agreed to the nomination before it was made, of course.

USDF posted a press release today - https://www.usdf.org/press/news/view-news.asp?news=976

The sessions will be posted give it time. That GW would be nominated from the floor went around a day or two earlier; At first both Kevin and Steve decided to step out, but then Steve wanted to run. His presentations to the committees were rough at the start but got better. The only presentation by GW was right before the vote. I was sorry it was so lopsided.

Give it time. The educational presentation I made on Diversifying your GMO is posted on the GMO Officials Facebook Page. The rest will come.

Just an observer here, and past USDF member. I know George Williams is very qualified and respected. Is there something specific that his supporters hope he’ll accomplish in his new term ?

Dodged a bullet. Please not Kevin.

Well that’s encouraging but a bit silly. Why not post on the Convention page that sessions will be posted at a later date? Otherwise, how would folks know to go back and check? I don’t mind waiting if I know it’s going to happen, but otherwise I’m going to assume the info is gone forever

Why do you say that? (Sincere question)

There is absolutely no comparison between him and G. Williams.

I agree with you, but I inferred, maybe incorrectly, from “dodged a bullet,” that if Kevin had been elected it would have been bad for USDF.

I listened to the get the know the candidates video. Kevin said all the right things but then on the other hand he didn’t really say anything of substance. Steven although didn’t have Kevin’s background in the horse world, came right out and made a few points of things that he felt really needed to be addressed with the organization.
Since George was President for so long before I wonder what will be different?

Sent you a PM.

Steve has a corporate business background… his wife is a dressage trainer and judge. I am sorry the votes were so lopsided. Kevin remains USDF Vice President.

Steve Schubert’s background and vision for USDF sound refreshing.

I totally agree. I especially like what he said about people who are on committees but yet don’t go to the meetings and don’t engage. And at some point you just need to find people that are genuinely interested in doing what they volunteered to do and hold them accountable. I see this so much in the gmos. That’s how things just start to deteriorate because people are too afraid to just speak up and treat it like a business. It just turns into a big social thing.

So I really liked what I heard from him. Instead of pretending that everything is roses and sunshine he was not afraid to point out areas that the USDF needs to improve and has some challenges.
