USDF regionals

Region 5 championships cancelled. The first of many i suspect.

Yes, I wish they would just pull the plug now instead of crossing their fingers and canceling at the last minute.

@dotneko - where did you see this? Can you post a link?

Hmm - no link, but Janet posted it on facebook - too difficult travel restrictions in NM

Of course USDF website/calendar is down

NEDA was the first to cancel hosting Region 8 back in March/April I believe. However HITS took it on and it is still currently a go.

It was announced via email by the RMDS:
The Great American Insurance Group/USDF Region 5 Dressage Championships Licensed by USEF & Rocky Mountain Dressage Society Championships & Open Show, to be held on September 17-20, 2020, has been cancelled due to uncertainties related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

USDF Region 5 competitors may choose to compete in another region, but must change their region with USDF by the closing date of the regional championship they plan to attend (fee exempt).

In addition to the normal qualifying procedures, horse/rider combinations from Region 5 that change into another region may still qualify for the 2020 Great American/USDF Regional Championships under the amended qualifying criteria outlined below:
 • Earning two scores of at least the minimum qualifying percentage from either 2020 Great American/USDF qualifying classes, 2019 Great American/USDF qualifying classes, 2019 Great American/USDF Regional Championship classes, and/or 2019 US Dressage Finals classes. The qualifying fee did not need to be paid prior to riding in these classes.
 • Competitor must contact USDF in writing to request the previously earned score(s) be recorded as Great American/USDF qualifying and pay the qualifying fee(s) to USDF. Request and fee must be paid prior to the closing date of the regional championship competition.
 • Scores can be earned at one or more competitions and may be from the same judge or judge panel.
This cancellation also includes the Rocky Mountain Sport Horse Championships that were to be held on September 16, 2020.
The RMDS Board has also decided to move to a virtual Board of Governors meeting on November 21st instead of an in person meeting and we will not be having our Annual Awards Banquet in January of 2021. We will be holding an online presentation of our awards and an online auction to help raise funds for the organization and our scholarships. More information on these items will be forthcoming.

Interesting. I just booked a hotel for region 8s today.

I saw it on Facebook this morning.

In this article the reason is given as New Mexico having a 2 week quarantine requirement for anyone traveling into the state:https://www.psdressage.com/new-mexico-covid-19-restrictions-cause-cancellation-usdf-region-5-championships-usdf-dressage-seat-medal-semi-finals/

I’m really wondering about Region 7…

Region 9 is moving forward unless canceled by USDF.

Championships are moving forward and have been rescheduled for Del Mar Horse Park (I think) staying in the south this year. I know several people planning to go.

 • Curious about the bullets above: Specifically the line that says scores can come from 2019 classes? Is this region specific? Or does it apply to everyone? USDF doesnt seem to be working...

In many Regions there are shows that run after the Regionals. Our Region, 8, has two that run in October, so you could qualify for 2021 in 2020

Yes I get what you are saying. That wasn’t what I was thinking when I read it but you are probably right.

That’s the latest I’ve heard, and I’ve been debating going…but I’m worried it’ll get cancelled further down the line. San Diego County is currently under a pretty strict lockdown order. I guess they’re betting this is scaled back by end of September, but as it’s currently worded I don’t know how the Del Mar show could proceed with the restrictions in place if they’re not amended by then???

I won’t register without a clear refund policy.

The email I got (I’m in region 6) said that these amended qualifications included ALL shows in 2019, not just the ones after the 2019 regional qualifying deadline (so, for instance, anyone who qualified in 2019 could show at the same level in 2020 championships without additional shows, among other options). However, it was ONLY applied to Regions 5 and 6, both of which had over 70% of the 2020 regional qualifying season shows canceled.

I’m not holding my breath on Region 6 champs happening, at least without a venue change (but it’s getting way to late to finagle a venue change). That’s just a guess though, I decided not to show this summer so haven’t really been paying attention. Has Oregon been able to have a USEF show yet?

They’ve run a couple of HJ shows at the Del Mar horse park (facility formerly known as Showpark?) without incident other than one trainer being asked to leave bc of a person in the barn that had tested positive that they didn’t report, or something along those lines. But the protocols seem to be working. These shows ran as recently as last weekend.

Have you contacted the show management? That’s who can tell you the refund policy.

I read through the San Diego Lockdown order which went into place 8/8/20, frankly, I hadn’t heard about it as I live in LA County but my horses live in SD County so thanks for pointing that out. It seems that horse shows are covered in the outdoors activities sections and it does say that hotels are open. As @Peggy points out, there have been recent shows at that facility (apparently it’s called Showpark of San Diego located at the Del Mar Horse Park ).

I think as long as people follow the rules regarding masks, social distancing etc, you should be fine if you’re OK making the drive from up north.

@Applecore, the Oregon Dressage Society calendar shows all USDF competitions have been canceled. That includes Dressage at Devonwood and the ODS championship show, also held at Devonwood. The Region 6 championship is still scheduled for October at Devonwood. As you may guess, that could change.

I do know people have been traveling from Oregon to California or Washington for shows. I assume they are getting their scores for regionals.
