So the woman who is secretary for most of our area shows posted the following on Facebook. Anyone know what the correct story is regarding qualifying scores? I presumed that the USEF statement covered pretty much everything, but now confused…
USDF has not made a statement about whether or not they will allow qualifying rides to count towards any USDF programs such as regionals and rider awards. So at this time we assume they will still count and our shows will go on! If USDF states differently we will let everyone know!
I have shared that email on the the USDF GMO Officials page on facebook. I hoped someone from USDF would see it. No official answers yet and nothing on their website. (OK, it was only shared today, so…) Would like an answer because there is a show coming up right around the corner from me at FHP…
FHP has closed through at least April 1st, so the April 3-4 show is still pretty up in the air. I’d bet money it gets cancelled.
and I also asked Emily Holmes about the show but have not heard. The manager is a different group than the email author I think, but I havent checked that I might be wrong.
And besides, if the scores are not going to count for anything, I’m not wasting the $$. I know Regionals etc are DF not EF, and so that is why the answer is important.
That was a good idea…maybe tomorrow I will call USDF.
Yes, it’s weird that USDF hasn’t issued any official statement of its own. Their website only links to the USEF statement.
When I saw the USEF announcement I assumed that the April 4-5 show, if run, would not count for something like Regionals, since the qualifications state the scores must be earned at a USEF-licensed show, but USEF has cancelled all shows for 30 days. But I’m pretty sure I’m not really sure what the difference is between a USEF-owned vs a USEF-licensed show.
Yeah. Until I’m sure I’m not spending the money even if it is 2 miles from my house.
I think a USEF “OWNED” show is like the USEF Championships at Lamplight. Pretty sure all USDF shows are “licensed”.
So earlier I looked on the USDF website to see what they had to say. I swear I saw they were expecting to make a statement about shows by the end of the week. Of course I can’t find that now.
The way I read this portion of the announcement, no qualification is possible during the period where shows are suspended. Regionals are licensed by USEF so I assume the statement below applies to any competitions that are run for the next 30 days:
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all USEF owned events, selection trials, training camps, clinics, and activities will be suspended for the next 30 days. Additionally, USEF strongly recommends that competition organizers suspend all USEF licensed competitions across the country for the next 30 days and that equestrians do not compete for the next 30 days. For those competitions that do run, there will be no accumulation of points, scores, money won, qualifications, or rankings toward any USEF awards programs, USEF owned event, or selection to a US team during this 30-day time period. This includes USEF National Championships. (emphasis added)
Luccassb - Yes, that was my thought when I saw the announcement. But then oh so puzzled when someone who is secretary for two different show sponsors seems to think people can still get qualifying scores…
I did send email to USDF yesterday, but its not clear how long it will take them to answer given reduced staffing, etc
Edited to add, google just showed me this: very nice description of the hierarchy and who does what. Further supporting the above comments that USEF is basically in charge.

Maybe they mean that you can’t qualify for the USEF programs (listed here https://www.usef.org/compete/resources-forms/disciplines/dressage) - NAYC, Lamplight/National Championships, Nations Cups/Olympics, etc.
Rider Medals and Regional championships are USDF programs.
That said, USDF should really have had a press release out by now!
USDF just sent out an e 971-7038

[h=2]USDF Suspends Accepting Scores from USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized Competitions[/h]
Lexington, KY (March 18, 2020) – The United States Dressage Federationâ„¢ (USDF) Executive Board held an emergency meeting on Tuesday, March 17, to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 virus on the US dressage community. At this meeting, the USDF Executive Board voted that, effective immediately, all results processing will cease through April 15, 2020. As a result, any scores earned at USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized competitions during this time will not be applicable to any USDF championship or awards programs, nor be recorded as a part of a horse or rider’s official record with USDF. This will also apply to scores earned at schooling competitions participating in the USDF Regional Schooling Show Awards Program. USDF will continue to assess the situation on a daily basis and will update our position as circumstances warrant.
Additionally, the USDF Executive Board voted to waive their existing policy for any USEF-licensed/USDF-recognized competition that chooses to cancel their event, due to this decision, to be refunded any USDF Competition Recognition fee paid, in full, within 30 days of the notice of cancellation to USDF. Additionally, show management of any cancelled competitions shall refund all USDF Regional Dressage Championship qualifying ride fees paid. Fees paid for the purpose of participating in the USDF Regional Schooling Show Awards Program, by affected schooling competitions, will also be refunded, in full, within 30 days of notice to USDF.
It was also decided that any USDF organized or hosted educational events scheduled through the weekend of May 22-24, 2020, will be cancelled with the intention to reschedule them for a future date.
USDF President Lisa Gorretta spoke of the decisions, “We have not made these decisions without careful consideration of the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic upon our members, staff, volunteers, the sport, and our entire dressage community. Following the lead of our NGB, US Equestrian, for this initial period of the suspension of results will allow us to monitor this national emergency and the directions of the CDC and other authorities, in order to address future developments and issues as they may arise. We are hopeful that our country will benefit from swift actions from everyone and a resulting shorter duration of this life-threatening virus outbreak.”

I have a pending post with the email copied into it so hopefully admins are able to review and approve it. USDF just sent out a notice that they will not count anything for points and programs.
I just got an email from USDF

Thanks @Janet I just hopped on to post that, I got the email too.
@lorilu scores April 4-5 won’t count
yep I got the email as well. thx.
I would like to think USDF announcement was done in response to my email:lol: but pretty sure that is not the case! At least now we have clarification.
Kind of curious - I have NOT gotten a notice. So - are you all PM members? I didn’t PM this year because I wasn’t sure I’d be showing (long term injury), but I am a GM member. No notice? I’m wondering if my GMO needs to get the word out!
I am a GMO member (and have only ever been a GMO member) and got the email. Maybe check your junk/spam folders.
