Used Saddle Shopping

I have ridden english for a LONG time and now I am western saddle shopping for a trail saddle. Can anyone give me pointers about what to look for in a saddle other than the obvious fit for the horse and me? I have a few friends that are bringing me some to try in the next few weeks.

Thanks, Bopper

Keep in mind that you get what you pay for. So, if you have a smallish budget, look for a used reputable brand saddle like Circle Y, Dale Chavez etc. A good affordable brand of saddle that I LOVE is Alamo. I have two that I bought used, one for my daughter and one for myself as a work saddle and both are super comfy and of nice quality.

I have a Circle Y that is my all time favorite, but my back cannot handle tossing that up on horses everyday so I have a synthetic for working everyday and use the Circle Y for showing. For daily work I use a Fabtron. Personally, I like these saddles hands down better than Wintecs.
