My horse has been on 57mg of previcox for the last couple of months and I am hoping to show him at a USEF show. Are you allowed to keep your horse on the drug or do I need to switch over to bute for the show? It says it can be administered for 14 consecutive days?
I show in H/J and always use Previcox instead of bute. I’m not sure if the medication rules are the same for dressage, though. My horse has been drug tested multiple times over the past several years by USEF and there’s never been a problem.
See the rulebook. Previcox is actually an off label use in horses, there is an equine brand. So check the rulebook and talk with your vet. It’s an easy one to solve (you don’t need to switch to bute), you just want to make sure you are compliant.

page 10 and 11. it scrolls vertically but is read horizontal
the rule states you must withdraw 12 hours prior to competition,
Previcox = firocoxib
Call the USEF. They are incredibly helpful. If it’s an immediate situation then call the hotline.

Firocoxib is the active drug in both Previcox and Equioxx. 57 mg pill is the same as a tube of paste, for a fraction of the cost.

57 mg of Equioxx = 57mg of Previcox. They are both firocxib, and both would test the same.
I second calling the USEF or email the drug line. My understanding after calling them is that you can keep your horse on it, but you cannot give any other NAIDs.
