If a professional is newly marked ineligible “general rule violation” on the USEF ineligibility list is there any way to find out more about what the violation was? Or what possible violations fall under that category?
I think that means “General Rule” violation (not general “rule violation”).
You can find the General Rules in the USEF rulebook (on the USEF web site.
General Rules, among other things, include the Drugs and Medication Rules, and the Amateur Rules.
Do you still have to be a USEF member to see the violation hearing results?
Non members may have to rely on the kindness of others.
I don’t understand what purpose in putting violations behind what is essentially a pay wall. It does not serve the greater good when everyday folks are trying to do due diligence and understand
I am a USEF member and looked at rulings. There aren’t very many and this person doesn’t have one so not sure what that means.
The ruling may be old so finding an actual charge may be challenging. If it is via Safe Sport you can double check there. I am not sure who at USEF could answer the question officially. You might have to check via that route
I think the online rulings are super out of date. The USEF magazine publishes them, which is the only way I know to find out. I did try to reach out to them previously about this to see if there was a better way and crickets, sadly.
It’s definitely not old. The ineligibility is dated starting April of this year.
That’s interesting about the online listings being out of date. I’ll have to see about trying to get a copy of the USEF magazine.
Often the ineligibility starts about a year after the incident and/or hearing where it was imposed.
Thanks Janet, that’s helpful info.
Yes, Janet is correct, you may have to read back over the last year . GR violations are not discipline specific; ammy rule violations, bad sportsmanship, bounced checks , abuse etc
I believe the reason for the delay is that, if you misbehaved at Show X, they want to force you to miss the next year’s Show X.
Yes it serves no purpose to punish a competitor during the off season, for those who do not year round circuits.
So I looked back through the USEF magazines (which turns out, you can find online) and this person is never listed in their rulings. Also they are listed as ineligible starting April 2024 but there is no end date. I looked up some of the people who were written up and they have start and end dates. Do they place people on the ineligible list prior to a ruling? (i.e. if they violated a rule in April 2024 would they be made ineligible prior to a ruling but there would be no record or end date yet)? FWIW I mostly just want to make sure this person didn’t do something aggregious
I would contact USEF directly. If you cannot get clear answers then if you are shopping for a new trainer barn etc, this may be a little red flag
That is weird.
As far as I know the only people who were suspended permanently (no end date) were the people involved in the horse-killing-for-insurance scandal (and maybe some of the Safe Sport violations).
I would definitely ask USEF.
I think you can also have an open ended suspension status for unpaid debts.
Yes, I forgot about that.
