A few people at my barn want to do a “destination” B show this year and I volunteered to help figure out what they need from a USEF/USHJA standpoint. I’m trying to write a checklist and explain options vs. what’s required. Does anyone have or know where something like this could be found? I’m hunting around the USEF website and haven’t really found anything that would be helpful for newbies. They’ll be doing unrated and opportunity classes only. I think opportunity is totally exempt from membership reqts, but a couple of the riders would be doing low hunters and jumpers. TIA!
1-Usef and USHJA memberships (or pay the non member fees if that is better economics). i’m not sure if you pay non member fee how that works now that you need to participate in safe sport training. I have always been a member. i’m failing you on that detail.
2- Flu/Rhino vaccine certificate at least 1 week old and within 6 months
3-proof of negative coggins within a year of show
is that the type of info you need? obviously show attire as appropriate for division, etc.
I’m good as far as basic requirements since I already show myself. I did send a question to USHJA about horse registration for people using the non-member option. And I believe I have confirmed that Safesport training is only required for competing members 18 years and older. Really I was looking to see if there was already a “user-friendly” document out there for people new to showing. But at this point, I think I’ve already written it up!
Edited to add - thanks, Emily!
That document would probably be the show’s prize list.
While chock full of important info, a prize list is not the sort of checklist I was thinking of for entry-level folks. But, thanks.
So much for less than A-rated shows depends on local/zone rules. You will probably have to write the checklist yourself using the USEF rule book, rules local to the show location, and the prize list.
Not exactly what you asked for, but a fantastic destination USEF B show, held at the Kentucky Horse Park is the Robert Murphy Show in early July every year. Always well run, nice prizes, wide variety of classes and being at the Horse Park makes it special.
