Where is everybody??? There are only 5 entries in the Small Junior Hunter 15 and Under. Where are the Gochman girls and Emma Kurtz?? Do people not like Saugerties? I didn’t see this last year when the finals were held at the Devon show grounds…
Taking a look at the number of entries in the later classes, it looks more “normal” as we get to the larges. 90 to watch in the Hunterdon! http://www.hitsshows.com/saugerties/…-go-saugerties
Yes, I did notice that. I will be watching the Hunterton for sure! I was just a little surprised.
The 3’3" division has depleted the 3’6" division. They also need to change the size split on the junior hunters. When those sizes were determined kids rode TB’s. There aren’t too many Warmbloods that make it to the USA that are under 16 hands. They needed to keep up with the times about 10 years ago to keep the divisions somewhat equal numerically. It is mostly the fallout of both of those things and competing horse shows in otter parts of the country.
Anywhere to see the Hunterdon Cup? Looks like the younger 3’3" Smalls now?

I was also surprised to see how low the entries are, though I have to say i would probably not be taking DD to Saugerties either. Too bad they moved from Devon, that was worth doing.
Thank you OP. Duh!
Wasn’t there talk about changing the height of the smalls to include 16hands? I seem to remember something a few years ago, but maybe it is already passed or I am completely wrong?
Nope, you’re right! The smalls are up to 16 hands tall, and larges are over 16 hands. That changed a couple of years ago.
Enjoying the Hunterdon Cup. however I really dislike the music. It is very distracting to me. Also wish they would keep the graphic up of who is on course for the entire time. And dude!! Stop zooming out before they jump the last jump!!!
I love the music! It’s getting me through the work day and is way better than dead air or a tractor running in the background. That nasty tip over the oxer was scary, thought for a minute he might rotate. Whoever that was (can’t recall) was having a beautiful trip too!
different strokes!!
Those numbers are disappointing compared to what I remember from last year. I wonder if USE will consider moving it to Kentucky or back to Devon? I believe they are going to be held at Saugerties again next year.
The Hunterdon Cup just wrapped up after three rounds of competition. Taylor St. Jaques was the winner. Daisy Farish 2nd. Brian Moggre 3rd. Natalie Stoyko 4th, Grace Boston 5th, Cooper Dean 6th.
Our decision not to go was entirely based on the fact that it was held at Saugerties.
I have been watching the large 3’6" juniors 16-17 and it appears that the handy course is giving many of them a lot of trouble.
To those who could have gone and chose not to due to the locations: What is the issue with Saugerties? (I’d prefer Devon or Kentucky, as well but for different reasons I believe).
We used to refer to Saugerties as “5000 people seeking shade under one tree,” but regrettably that tree has since died.
It would have been a ten hour drive for us and so I asked anyone “in the know” about Saugerties after reading a blog with a letter to Tom Struzzieri about the lack of upkeep and rude staff at HITS shows Not one person said, “oh it is a beautiful facility; it will be worth it,” I watched the video of Junior Hunter Finals yesterday, saw the numbers, and decided daughter made right decision to miss it.
