I liked Tessa Downey’s trip (though I am rooting for the Texas riders). Also Cameron Kohls’ horse is super shiny and looks like it has a pretty coloring as well.

Sorry if there are any names misspelled!
Horse 191 on the list is Lordan. Is that the same Lordan that Nayel Nassar used to ride?
I’m glad Aedan Mooney made the list, even if she’ll likely get bumped. I really liked her trip.
Appears to be a different one. Nayel Nassar’s has a birthday of 2004, while this one is 2012.
Sam Walkers trip was absolutely beautiful.
Our local rider went right after Sam. Sadly, her ride would’ve been overshadowed by his stunning round!
I suspect he’ll be at the top of the final call back. Or very near it.
I was thinking: one of the things I really like about this course is that you don’t need a superstar equitation horse to execute this course well. You need a nice horse of course - one that handles the height easily, does all the tests, etc. But in years past, I’ve felt like some of the courses were tests of the horse as much as the rider. Not this year.
Elli CRUSHED it!!! My favorite so far for sure.

I had Sam a few spots lower, but I like it! Will be a great round!
What time is round 2?
9am
Mine, too!
When she jumped into the grey in and out—even before she left the ground—she put her eye on the green skinny and never looked away—it was perfect!
I have a question I’m not trying to be rude. But I noticed with Taylor Griffiths-Madden she always kind of tips the last stride before the jump and I noticed a couple other girls doing that as well. This is something I see in the hunters to kind of to show off their jump but not in the equitation. Wouldn’t this be something that would be counted against you? Or maybe it doesn’t matter because she rode the course beautifully?
Any top riders not riding because of covid?
I only saw the first 20 or so and I was yelling at the screen for most of them to ride forward. I saw Grace Debney’s on fb after and I LOVE how she was forward and continued.
I like courses that don’t ruin good horses and send kids home in ambulances. Also galloping is good! Two thumbs up for the course!

I didn’t see her go today, but I’ve seen her ride before. Personally, I don’t mind much that a rider does to encourage a free and athletic performance from the horse provided it doesn’t compromise the horse’s way of going, so I would hope a judge wouldn’t penalize (and depending on what happened may reward) a rider who softens the arm and closes the hip angle a stride away from the fence to ensure the horse is unimpeded in his arc over the fence. Sam Walker does this too and for him it can look like he rounds his shoulder to do it, but horses go wonderfully for him. That said, this should be done in the name of improving the performance- dramatically changing the rider’s balance before the jump will change that of the horse, and throwing away the contact before a challenging turn is just goofy.
Showing in the hunters growing up, we were taught to get the horse to the jump in a way that allowed us to soften the arm and close the hip a few strides out to encourage a free effort of the back and neck. The questions you are asked in the equitation are different so that isn’t always the best ride in that class, but a good equitation rider should show the sympathy for the horse that allows him to give his best.
Well, off we go again! I don’t see a course map up on PhelpsSports, who had it yesterday. Has anyone found a copy somewhere else?
ETA - what a difference from last year’s second round course!
