USEF membership? Competing or Non-Competing?

I’m getting back into competing after my broodmare years and have started to re-join all the required memberships.

I do want to join USEF for the insurance but expect only to do local dressage and event shows with a couple of USEA events later this year.

Is there a reason to join USEF as a competing member?

USEA (US Eventing Assoc) and USEF (US Equestrian Federation) membership is 1 Dec to 30 Nov of each year.
USEF membership is required for Eventing only at Preliminary and above.
As of 2014 both horse and rider at the BN must be registered - which does not required USET membership. However you must pay a non-member fee at BN events, but after so many events it become cost effect to join. Not to mention all of the benefits, such as rule book, magazine and in general on-going information. This is listed under USEA Rules defining membership.
You may also wish to join your local Dressage/Combined Training Association to be kept advised of local clinics, instructors and competitions.

Thanks! I will definitely join both MeCTA and USEA - Area I, that goes without saying.

I appreciate the link.
