a) what does this mean
b) why, at competitions where we’ve placed, have we earned points that seemingly land in the “bad” column
Just curious…

Not properly registered or out of Zone.

I… don’t know what that means?
Good points count toward zone USEF awards. Bad points do not count (either you competed in a zone that is not where your address is, or the class did not fill for points, or the horse didn’t have a life recording before the show.) There are tons of reasons, but I don’t know them and they are not important for those not fighting for USEF horse of the year awards in hunter and jumpers.
They are not actually “bad” or negative points, just the systems way of saying those don’t count for rankings.

Ah!!! Okay. Thanks so much!
If it was a breed restricted division, it may mean that the USEF did not properly record the breed registration papers, even though you sent them in.
Or they think you were out of Region…and you weren’t. I had to really keep on top of it this year, but I did miss one which is too late to change.

All good info. I don’t think it really matters in this case, since it’s doubtful that the horse will never go above N. (I lease this horse, and have never owned, hence my stunning ignorance
If this was a Horse Trial, then it doesn’t matter. USEF no longer offers HOTY (Horse of the Year) Awards in Eventing. What counts is you USEA points on the USEA leaderbaord.
The only exception is the Connemara Division, which has USEF HOTY awards for Connemara Eventers, based on USEF points instead of USEA points.

Yep. HTs all. And apparently I have 12 points. Do I get a free USEA bumper sticker?
