USEF Sanction Question - unrated show organizers

Unrated/schooling show organizers how do you handle an individual who’s been sanctioned by USEF? Say a local rider being sanctioned and they want to show at your unrated/nonUSEF sanctioned show. I’m part of an organization that hosts several USEF and nonUSEF sanctioned shows so looking for some guidance as we have a rider who often competes so looking for some opinions and guidance. For background - she was unaware of that depo was banned for mares.

The language in your prize list should cover it. State that your show is conducted under the current rules of the USEF Rule Book and as such, a suspended person is ineligible to compete.

Sample language:
General Rules & Information Conditions of Entry: Every class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current USEF Rule Book will be conducted and judged in accordance therewith.
Management reserves the right to refuse, accept conditionally or to cancel any entries, disqualify riders or exhibitors, prohibit exhibition of entries, without claim to damages.

Be careful stating this if it’s not a recognized show. USEF has been getting very snippy about associations using their rulebook. Better to say your show is conducted under the following rules… XYZ and refers to the National Governing Body for equestrian sport for anything not covered. Then state this show will also abide by any suspension list of the National Governing Body for equestrian sport or any suspension by Safe Sport.

That says what you want to cover without naming USEF and triggering their copyright on their rules.

Also what if the sanctioned person is the one organizing the unrated show?

I didn’t know USEF didn’t allow that, interesting. Most (all?) of the local schooling shows say they operate under USEF rules in one language or another.

Yeah - not going to that one!

Thank you Tackpud - exactly. We go over this with my group every year when we’re reviewing our prizelists.

Also- the individual is not part of our organizing committee so we’re good there. My question isn’t really about phrasing our rules as much as what do other nonUSEF shows do with suspended/sanctioned individuals? technically it’s not a USEF show so they have no jurisdiction to prevent them from attending but depending on the offense they may not want them around.

Does the organizing committee have any rules in place regarding this? I have been involved in circumstances such as this, and as management, we asked the persons to leave the show grounds as they are not welcome. It’s easier if you have something in writing to back that up.
