USEF/USHJA Name Changes

I just did an ownership transfer on a horse into my name, and was hoping to change his name with USEF. I couldn’t remember what the cost was for name changes, so I looked at changing one of my other horses on my dashboard and it said $0 to change their name. I went in to change my “new” horse after I did the owner transfer and it said it would be $100… I guess I’ll be keeping the same name for a while, since I just paid another $100 for the owner transfer!

He does also need to be registered with USHJA as he’s not yet recorded. Does anyone know if I would also have to pay for a name change with them later as well?

I know the costs of everything have gone up…but I feel like every single thing with USEF and USHJA gets more and more expensive every year. So much for accessibility.

USHJA horse registration is $75.
USHJA name change is $20

That assumes my search results are accurate.

So cost to change USEF name now and record with USHJA = $100 + $75 = $175.00

Cost to record now with USHJA using current USEF name and then change names with both later = $75 + $100 + $20=$195.00

Thank you BB software for doing the math

Guess it depends on how badly you want to change the name and how quickly. I don’t change names for a variety of reasons, though saving money isn’t in that equation.

USEF and USHJA recordings and memberships are less coupled now than they were previously. For example, you’ll get different horse recording numbers for each.

Oh yeah, can confirm, you get to pay both USEF and USHJA for all the things. I couldn’t stand my horse’s show name when I bought him, and it had already been changed before so I wasn’t going to be the first to change it, so I sucked it up and paid all the fees to get it changed. It was super annoying, but ultimately less annoying than hearing his old show name every time I went in the ring!
