USTR Benefit Trail Ride in Loudoun County -- 8/7

U.S. TRAIL RIDE (USTR) BENEFIT PLEASURE RIDE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 7, 2011
Neersville, Virginia

Join us for a day of riding on the beautiful, shaded trails of the Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship (BRCES) in Neersville, VA, located between Hillsboro and Harpers Ferry. The ride will be approximately 10 miles long over mixed terrain, including bridges and creek crossings. Trails will be marked by ribbons and riders will “go as they please.” Ride out will be between 8:30 and 10:30a.m.
Proceeds from the ride will benefit The Blue Ridge Center (BRCES), the non-profit educational organization that stewards the 900 acre historic landscape.

For more detailed information, visit http://www.ustrailride.org/BenefitRides.html.

Interested, but have been to the website and can’t find an address. I would like to map quest to see how long a drive and what the directions are. I put in blue ridge center, but it didn’t come up on map quest.

Sonata, I Google mapped Neersville, VA.

It’s up near Frederick, MD, so it’s on the northernmost tip of VA.

It’d be an almost 5 hour drive for me, so that’s not going to work. Bummer, as it looks like a fun day.

Jazzrider- I wish they had a shorter option (i.e. 5 miles) as I fly a desk for a living and my horse is aged (24). Any chance of that?

Here is the web page with directions. I hope to go, coming back from New Mexico the night before, if not too jetlagged.

ack- just checked the date and I am volunteering at Morven that weekend, hope you have a good event!

Thanks for the imput of location. It sounds like a doable for me

baylady, I think this is may be an option if more people request it. I have two horses I would love to take, but I just don’t think they could do the entire trail. Janet emailed me this when I asked her about doing a shorter ride:

“There are two loops on the ride that can be optional – Derry Loop and Legacy Loop. We haven’t worked out the exact trail course yet, and I’m guessing we’ll mark Legacy as the optional loop. Without it the ride would be about 7 miles. If you think that’s too long as well, we could talk about providing your group with guidance on how to skip Derry as well (it’s easy). We’re having a planning meeting next week and will discuss these things.”

Hi folks! Sorry for my delay in responding. Thanks for posting my email response!

We’re meeting next week and will be sure to have an optional shorter ride. I just got back from riding there and it’s a 3.5 hour ride at the walk/trot.

We usually only send out the address and directions to registered riders, because it’s a private residence. But it’s only a mile up the road from here: http://www.blueridgecenter.org/Default.aspx?pageId=534982

Come ride early Baylady! You can ride out as early as 830AM…

Hi Jazz
If only it were do-able. I live in VA, horse lives in MD, plus I have to be at show by 830am latest. Maybe if they have a 5 mile or less one in the fall when it is cooler.

We’re contemplating another ride in the fall – so watch for it! Sorry to miss you, but volunteering at Morven will be fun too!

Sounds like a fun ride! Alot going on that weekend…but am going to see if I can make it.

And Jazz – thanks for a great ride today! It was perfect for my “green bean” and we both had a blast!

Janet

If you don’t have time to ride, you could volunteer to help out!

It was a nice ride! You’ve got a a great little horse there – he’s got such potential. Hope we can get out there again!

flyer shows a group set up with chairs/? camping? But this ride would be a haul…so, is there any possibility of camping? I couldn’t find any on the flyer

Will be there with my youngest chestnut!! This is a beautiful ride in lovely Middleburg riding territory. Not one to miss…and proceeds go for a good cause, too.
:):)

Ayrabz – I can ask the land owner where the parking is if they’ll allow camping. It would be rough – no electric, bring in your own water, etc., but there will be porta-potties. He’s let a few riders do it in the past… Shoot me an email (it’s on the registration docs) if you’re serious about it.

Just bumping this up! The lower ride fee is for registration postmarked on or before next Friday!

Another bump! This is a worthy cause!

Bumping this up one last time. We’re supposed to have nice weather this weekend! Instructions and driving directions for day-of-ride registrants will be posted on USTR’s website later this week. Come and ride with us!
