I think Carl’s “part ownership” is a bit iffy. Ms Stewart was having problems before the Olympics, and his ownership was suddenly transferred to safeguard him for the Olympics. There are plenty of people with deep pockets who can make sure Uthopia lands well.

Could also have been a lien for training & board.
Regardless, a court in bankruptcy could order a sale to satisfy creditors (including Carl.)

well you can google as well as anyone else. Ownership has changed over the years.
Whatever. Either way it sucks. JMHO
You are correct - I can Google - can you ?

This news is all over Facebook and people are all worked up over the no reserve price.
so you are replying here to posts on fb? Ok I get it now. I guess.:eek:
Maybe dont assume everyone here is reading the same crap you are reading on FB?
Criky Crock ma cocotte-ish crotchety curmudgeon - chill!!!
Why are people so bothered about the no reserve thing ? I doubt that Carl would let him go to somebody else for a song. I also think he has the contacts to round up some backers.

For me that is not the issue. I just don’t like the idea of there being no assessment/ approval at all re the buyer.
Yes I know it happens all the time to all manner of horses.
Every day. And no one cares much. blahblahblah
But I don’t like it and same for my own horses.
JMO.
I am not at all concerned about him ending up with a kill buyer, because that thought is absurd - at least in the immediate future, anyway. What I am concerned about is someone with deep pockets buying him and and not providing him with quality care or thinking they can bring him back from retirement and breaking him down completely. Most of us have read the stories about equestrians from certain teams who maybe don’t provide the best care for their horses or who run them into the ground. Granted, I’ve heard less about it with dressage than I have with the jumpers or with endurance, but we all know that there are just some folks out there who don’t place the value on these animals that a lot of other people do.
The drama about this issue is so OTT. Horses go to auction every day of the week. Top horses change hands constantly. The horse was fit and out competing until recently when he was prevented from doing so by the ownership issue. Charlotte made a statement in March in regards to being unable to compete him in Las Vegas because of the ownership issue. Never has an injury been mentioned until conveniently an announcement was made about his sale. A clever attempt at putting off buyers? The horse has commanded high stud fees for a number of years now, he is a valuable asset for anyone. If Carl doesn’t manage to secure him for himself one would wonder what the real reason would be for that given that he has a number of wealthy owners who no doubt would buy the horse IF they considered it a wise move financially. And that’s the thing, all the normal people getting their panties in a twist over the proposed sale and wanting to donate $20, whilst the people with the real money will only get involved if it makes sense financially. There is really no need for this horse to become some sort of charitable cause, his stud fees alone would guarantee him a nice life but chances are he will go to a YR. I hope he sells for lots of money and anyone owed money in the bankruptcy proceedings gets their debt paid off. The situation has been farcical with the horse moving between owners in a bid to evade the law.
Happened with a show jumper Casello. I wouldn’t be sure that it’s a paperwork issue. Maybe Carl just couldn’t come up with the money for the buy out

I feel bad for the owners, and for Carl. Otherwise, much ado about nothing. Hopefully he will end up at an appreciative home.

I think THIS is the main concern for most people and was mine when I made the original post. Not the no-reserve…we KNOW that he won’t be going to slaughter or a Unadilla/New Holland auction. It’s just sad for Carl and his connections.
I’m sure the new owners will be considerate and will take good care of the horse.
(Let’s just pray that no one from the united arab emirates lay hands on this horse.)
what do you base that on
He is an unsound Olympic gold medal stallion that someone may want to have for a sperm machine at a sperm factory (PSI?) or for some far flung nation to try to bring back to competition.
CH wants to just retire him there as has been done with several other great horses so he is not whistling dixie. Has done this over and over…
Sorry but wealthy buyer does not ensure good home.
Fortunately he likely has most value to Carl and Uk fans -so let’s hope he can retire there
Ok now bilgewbliver will come by shortly to make fun of my username again because she has nothing better to do and nothing more intelligent to say

Uthopia’s already been in the breeding shed so a job as a breeding stallion wouldn’ t be far from a bad faith for him. You think CH wouldn’t have use him as a stallion? A friend of mine saw Totilas at PSI and really, the horse looked great.
Also, no one really knows what type of injury Uthopia has and if he’s really injured. After reading this, Eurodressage article on the matter I’m really not sure what to believe. If the horse has been so badly injured for the past 4 yrs and needed such regular special therapies, I fail to understand why he’s been competed at all.
This horse is not just worth pennies. The person who will buy him will have the money to take great care of him (and I understand that it doesn’t mean it will be well taken care of) but CH is not the only rider in the world who takes pride in caring well for his horses.
I’m really NOT happy that this is happening but I guess that’s life.

No. Where the fruitbat are you getting that idEA ? Please direct me to where I said that.
There is a difference for a stud living at the PSI factory and at Hesters yard.

I have not missed the point. This news is all over Facebook and people are all worked up over the no reserve price. This horse is in no danger and he will bring a high enough price. It really isn’t different from a regular sale for a well known horse like this.
My thoughts on who “deserves” the horse are separate.
I suspect the “no reserve” is due to the legal requirements. The horse “must” be sold and they can’t put an unreasonable reserve on it to block the sale.

You don’t think so?
fine.
It seems pointless to even try to communicate here.
You said someone would use Uthopia as a sperm factory. You seemed to imply that it would be a crime to use him as a stallion and I wondered if you realised
that CH already used him as a sperm factory.
Is there any report of horse abuse at the PS breeding sheds? (apart from the ridiculous PETA case.)
Have you ever been to any of the PSI breeding yards? Do you think his 38 stallions are abused?
It does seem pointless to even try to communicate here.
