Uthopia to be sold at auction...not a joke!

Anyone looking to buy an Olympic Gold Medal dressage horse?

Uthopia is being sold at auction as part of bankruptcy proceedings.:no:

Don’t think there is any worry about the meat buyers in this case…

“I’m told the latest findings are that he needs another year off and, if that is the case, then in my view it is time to retire this horse. There is only one home he should retire to: Carl’s.”

Then get a number and bid on him. This is ridiculous. I doubt the horse is going through the British equivalent of New Holland. Even if he is, it’s being publicized so anyone who thinks he should go to a good home is free to place a bid.

The horse is a significant asset owned by people in debt. If they were playing games on the ownership front - well manure occurs.

Just hoping that whoever buys him keeps in in Carl’s care. No, he won’t end up at slaughter, but look at Totilas…he was never quite the same after his change in home.

there are plenty of very wealthy YR in the UK. good sweet girls who ride well. I am hoping he goes to one of them as a schoolmaster/YR horse. He would get top care, likely continue to train with Carl and retire to live in luxury. I dont know the extent of the injury but if not career ending i am keeping my fingers crossed he stays on british soil.
If he CANNOT be ridden, well, he has many years of baby making ahead of him but again, heres hoping its a nice stud farm with rolling hills and fresh air and not a battery farm of stallion hell…

This is very sad because aside from everything this horse has done for the UK, Carl is part owner but now has no say in what happens to this horse because of bankruptcy proceedings agst another part owner. This horse could end up anywhere in the world as a sperm machine or worse because with the auction- anyone can have him-if they have enough money.
.
I hope he can be bought and kept with Carl Hester who has a track record of welcoming retirees at his stable and especially since he is part owner already of U. This is very sad

Of course this is sad but this horse stands a chance of getting a very good home because of what he has done and the fact that he is a stallion. Think about all the horses that are torn apart from their owners because of divorce proceedings or bankruptcies at the lower levels. Unfortunately I have known a few people who have had to sell their horses, their beloved partners and trusted mounts because of divorce. There’s no guarantee that those horses we’re going to find permanent homes where they would be loved and cared for for the rest of their lives. I would imagine that some wealthy person will probably bid on this horse as an investment opportunity. I doubt this horse will end up shaggy and uncared for in some back pasture with barbed wire fencing.

There are actually worse things than that. You don’t know that?

What you are missing is that his part owner and trainer and rider Carl Hester who trained this horse up through the levels to Olympics now has no say whatsoever in what happens to the horse. Can you maybe relate to that?

And the great thing about ch is that he actually does care about the horses- many former mounts are retired there.

but carry on -it is just an asset- (remember this horse is part owned by Carl Hester- not a sponsor owned horse) - whatever

lalalala- doesnt matter

There is a possibility that a group of Hester fans from GB will gather some $$ to purchase him for Carl. I do not know much now but if I learn more or there is a GFM page set up I’ll let you all know!! Heck I would contribute a “Tubman” for that cause!!

What a crummy situation.

Does anyone know if it’s common for joint owners to have shareholder or partnership agreements in these types of situations (e.g. big $$$ joint horse ownership)?

The page has been set up - However I am checking (for my own purposes) to see if the $$ will really go to that cause!!

I can’t believe all the people moaning about the no reserve, as if this horse will fall anywhere close to kill prices. Get a grip.

My thoughts exactly!!

The horse is being auctioned along with supercars. There really is no worry about the horse going to some meat buyer.

I feel bad for Carl, but it is just a bad situation all around.

 think you are missing the point. Go back and read maybe.

CH is part owner but now has no say what happens to the horse

Are you really that cold hearted or do you just play that on the internet

With the amount of times it has been said in this thread I doubt anyone is missing this point.

I think you are mistaken:eek:

I am not sure what the quoted post has to do with the point you are making.

One point is that a partial owner (I assume there is a paper work issue and that is why they are getting the short end of the stick here) is having a horse sold out from under them.

The other point is that some people are acting like this horse, at auction, is at risk for not selling for a fair market price and ending up some where that its life is at risk. Other people are rebutting this thought.

They really are two different topics and I am not sure how the second is causing you to post about the first.

It is becoming more common for syndicates to be formed to buy top horses (one was done here in US recently and the horse is with Adrianne Lyle). I would think it would be quite possible for CH to find some supporters to do such a thing, and who knows, maybe that will materialize at the auction.

^^ Oh come on guys - we all love Utopia and Carl and honestly if Carl needs help with this I would offer a $ or 2!!

If I learn anything new from my British friend I’ll let you all know :)

I have not missed the point. This news is all over Facebook and people are all worked up over the no reserve price. This horse is in no danger and he will bring a high enough price. It really isn’t different from a regular sale for a well known horse like this.

My thoughts on who “deserves” the horse are separate.
