Utility trailers

It’s time to invest in one and I don’t quite know what I need. Main thing it will be used for is picking up hay, I am switching back to the big squares and plan on picking up 2 at a time which is around 1600lbs.

Will also use it to haul our Polaris Ranger 500 when it needs maintenance.

Off the top of my head, I was thinking a 6x10 with a 2,000lb weight capacity? Does that sound right?

Any brands or places you’d recommend buying one?

For hauling hay you might be better off with a flatbed.
You can stack bales higher than a box trailer would limit you.
ATV can be loaded & bungeed in place.

16 foot, double axle, flatbed pipe trailer is very versatile. In my neck of the woods, this trailer, with two 3500# axles, is around $2500-3000 asking price, new; $1500 or so asking price, used.

Yes, a flatbed is what I mean

@Jarpur My only concern with 16’ is turning it around. We have a small circle drive and even turning around my 2h bumper pull is a tight squeeze…would a shorter length be problematic?

When you are hauling 1600 lbs on a trailer with a 2000 lbs limit you have got to watch the roads you drive. If you hit a good bump that 1600lbs suddenly can deliver more than 2000 pounds of force.

When I pick up hay I see people pull in with the kind pf trailer you describe and you can actually see the wheel alignment bow when loaded. I actually saw the guy that runs the hay place refuse to load as much as one person wanted to put on one of those trailers.

I just got rid of my 16ft landscape trailer (two axles) and replaced it with the 18 ft flatbed. The guys all love loading the trailer without sides much more and it is a heck of lot easier to unload.

Just make sure the flatbed you choose has wheel wells that doesn’t inhibit the floor space in any way. We have an older one that does and it is a pain at times.

at least around here you can get these trailers with drop sides that make it easy to load/unload with equipment
