As many of you know, I am the lady that has a horse with scratches. Well. He is better. He is on zinc and copper. Now, I need some recommendations for fly boots. I believe his skin is SUPER sensitive to the sunlight. I am not sure which ones to get. These boots have to hold up in turnout. He isn’t the type to get things off but he is very playful with his brother at points. I really like the shoofly ones but I heard they are not UV resistant, so, any UV protecting fly boot suggestions would help me out!! TIA
Shoo Fly Leggins are designed with a breathable mesh material that provides UV protection and they will stay in place. I use them in my barn & love them!
My one horse that has white socks and can get scratches found shoo flies a bit irritating (all my other horses wear them fine and they are my favorites typically). For the sensitive horse, I use these. They wear like iron in turn out.
I use the Shoofly leggings for my UV sensitive horse and they’ve worked great to prevent recurrence of scratches. (Along with never clipping his white legs.)
Another vote for Shoofly leggings, which worked well on my pinto, who had white legs and occasionally had scratches.
Another shout for Shoo Flies!
Reluctant shoo fly. I find the quality misaligned with the price but I think they do a good job of not irritating and staying up. I only get about 8-12 weeks before mine are falling apart.
I’ve had mine for about 5 years of summer use. I have heard people talk quality issues more recently, so maybe something has changed.
Shoo Fly every time! They are durable!
I went cheap 2 weeks ago and replaced a 3 year old pair of Shoo Fly boots with Professional Choice fly boots. My mare has already worn a hole where one stay is sewed in, and she only wears boots in the day time.
I’ve found the Warrior fly boots to be more durable than Shoo Fly ones lately. They’re a similar style and I don’t know if they offer UV protection.
Have you ordered from this company? I had a question about sizing. I called both numbers on their website and tried both option 1 to go to a specific store/internet sales and 3 for other inquiries. All three times they said to wait for a rep, after a minute or so they asked for an access code, I typed in something random, and was disconnected.
I haven’t; I was searching for a quick link when I posted and they came up first. I have bought mine from CU@X and they have great customer service. She’s always answered my sizing questions quickly.
FWIW, I have the L on front and XL on back for my 17hh warm blood that has pretty substantial bone.

After years of my horse destroying the Shoo Fly boots in a week (! her record was three days), I broke down and bought the Rambo Tech Fit Fly Boots. I personally prefer them, and she somehow (magically) can’t get them off. Beware that the velcro is crazy strong.
Last year when I put Warrior boots on my super sensitive skin mare they rubbed a sore on her coronet band. Which I had to bandage for months to get to heal. She was turned out in taller grass that stayed wet which I am sure made her skin more susceptible to rubs, kind of like a blister rubbed when your socks are wet. But the wraps do not have a soft edging on the bottom. So if you use them on a horse with tender skin you need to check them frequently.
