Yes, I know that there will be other threads on this, but I stated my own, because among strangers it’s OK to say, I’m shit scared, want sympathy, so I can keep my brave face on here!
My awesome, one of a kind, unicorn of a horse suddenly turned spooky and reactive. My trainer called it for eyesight issues, so called the vet in. She says he has uveitis, but getting any sort good diagnoses or prognosis was totally impossible, due to a certain young mans lack of cooperation. He was given two lots of sedation, and blew through both of them, was actually getting more amped up.
Now we are waiting for the Equine Ophthalmologist to get in contact, hoping to either get him to Mellow, or Mellow to him ASAP.
In the meantime the vet says he needs to be masked outside, we live north of the snow line, but seems he has a Republican view to mask wearing. I’m now on my third style, and he is still working, with the cooperation of his pal in the next pen, to remove them. On reflection putting his long nose Cashel on was a mistake, drinking water, with a long nose mask, in sub zero temps, must of been very uncomfortable. I have tried a cheaper, earless, noseless one, that didn’t last 2 hours before it was off.
I have a Kensington Uviator with detectable ears and nose on order, chosen to give his eyes good protection, but if the little dear won’t keep it on, then it’s not protection. He does have a Lycra mask, but I am not sure how they do on pen turn out, are the safe? The one he has does not have great protection, but a local seamstress says if I take the remains of a mask to her, she has lots of Lycra, and could make something.
So…needing positive vibes and jingles, and ideas to keep his eyes covered!
