VA hound Show

Can’t find a room! Any suggestions.

Have you tried around the Frederick area? It’s not too far of a drive from Frederick to Morven. Or even from the Dulles area. Can’t believe you can’t find a room!

Come stay with me. I’m an hour south.

so who’s going?

So did you find a room? Shouldn’t be a problem at all.
Anyone coming? I’m attending the luncheon, horn blowing contest & seminar on saturday and working all day sunday. Sunday afternoon I’ll be clerking the American ring and working registration in the morning. Was talking to the show chmn and I gather a few further away hunts aren’t coming due to expense and the economy so there will be a few, fewer hounds especially in the English ring. A large Canadian hunt isn’t coming. But I hear Sedgefield and Bull Run are returning. Can’t wait to see everybody. Mr. WG & I are now regular volunteers for the show. All they have to do is feed us and we’re there!!!
Will I see any of ya’ll???

I’m coming down to help out at Middleburg’s tailgate. I’m making pies - lemon, orange and lime merengue and maybe some others.

I’ll be there and I may even wear clothes without any slobber marks on them.

Guess what I’m bringing… KEVIN BACON!!!

Look forward to seeing all y’all there.

I will be there. We found a B&B. Mr. Hardaway is being inducted into the Huntsman’s Room. I’ve never been - sounds like a lot of fun. I need advice on dressing for the weather???

I plan on going to see all the adorable fox hounds.

Our hunt is taking hounds, but I won’t be there, couldn’t get anyone to farm sit for me.

How does one get an audience with Mr. Kevin Bacon?

I think you bring a knife and fork and napkin…or maybe he will be tucked into some biscuits…

My boss won’t let me off work Saturday, so I’m working 1/2 day, then driving up from SC Saturday night. Think the rest of the Why Worry gang will be there on Friday night. I’ll be at the show on Sunday at the crossbred ring and hope to sneak away to watch a few of the other rings, especially the American ring.

Ah! How does one sneak a sample of Mr. Kevin Bacon?

Follow the middle aged fat lady with unnaturally black hair.

What is a good time to get there on Sunday?

Would it be inappropriate to bring my 2 hounds (leashed, of course) to spectate? I think they might benefit from observing that most hounds actually have jobs, don’t have a couch designated just for them, and have to ride in a hound truck, not in the car!
They’re just a bit spoiled.

If they’re leashed you’ll probably be fine. I’ve seen lots of non-competing dogs there.

Only once had an issue - a woman got very snarky about Pippin being there.

I think we’ll need to practice the secret COTH handshake before the event! I can’t wait to see all the beautiful foxhounds. I’ve been thinking about getting one ever since I worked with one through a local rescue. It would also be nice to meet some of my fellow local COTHers too but I suspect there will be so many people there, that it will be difficult if not impossible unless someone plans something.

Unless they have relaxed the rules, no, all non-competing dogs should be kept at home. I certainly saw none when I was there for the Centennial and the rule as far back as late 70s when I first went has always been no dogs among spectators. There is already enough potential for loose hounds running around- plus you have the contagion issues such as brucellosis that the hunts have to strictly obey- so they would probably be really upset at ‘unknowns’ with a potential disease issue coming in.

So I would say please let yours stay home and relax on the couch. Besides it might stress 'em to have to move that much in one day.

Even if anyone’s done it in the past and gotten away with it- please don’t. The participating hunts will surely appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I can’t find any information that says non-competing dogs are or are not allowed. I guess I’ll have to call the information number but I can see the logic in not having them be allowed when you already have a giant pack of them there anyway.
