I am in South Georgia. Last fall, I got a little late on my fall vaccinations and didn’t have them administered until November. Do I need to wait 6 months to give my spring shots or can I go ahead and get them now to get back on the proper schedule?
Of course ask your vet, but since so many equine diseases are associated with mosquitoes, I would want my horse protected before mosquito season rolls around.
I agree with the above poster. Do you vaccinate for mosquito borne diseases in both fall and spring because of the warmer climate in Georgia? I only ask because we vaccinate just in spring here in NY, so I genuinely don’t know.
If you do 6 month boosters for something like flu/rhino, you’d probably want to wait the full 6 months or closer to it. Otherwise, I would think it’d be fine. Of course, I’m not a vet so please defer to their expertise.
Thanks Amy. Yes, I vaccinate for WNV twice per year. Others don’t, but I do.
If it were 2-3 months ago I would wait, but April would be fine, that’s 5 months. Then you can get to September for another 5 months, and then back to March and a 6 month schedule again.
Mine were late in the Fall too, so that’s what I’m doing with my vet’s blessing
