Vaccination Shipping

I’m so ticked off! I place an order for vaccines for my horse and a couple other boarders from Jeffers (just a few hour drive from our location). I figured while I ordered mine, I’d grab theirs and they could venmo me. All worked out, no problem. After I add everything to my cart, the shipping options pop up and say that both standard shipping and overnight shipping are the same delivery date (tomorrow) given my location. Makes sense to me because we are so close. I add a couple extra ice packs in to be sure, and submit. Save $20. Win.

Nope. Of course it arrives a day later than it says it would. The temp gun shows 60-65 degrees inside the packaging. And of course Jeffers cannot help at all.

Now I’ve placed a second group order with overnight shipping. I’m not going to charge the other boarders again for a choice I made a checkout. I just want to scream. Everything I read online says to dispose of them if they get outside of the 35-45 range. At this point, it would have been far less expensive to just pay the farm call fee for the vet. LOL

I get mine from Valley Vet. They are 1 state away. Free shipping and I get it the next day. They do charge shipping ( obviously) for people who live farther but they are really reliable and dependable.

I think overnight or air is $22 ( I am not positive, so don’t quote me on that.)

I actually ordered mine last night and they are here now!

I ordered again from Jeffers and bought the darn styrofoam cooler and 2 extra ice packs AND overnight shipping this time. With having to order twice, this is the most expensive vaccine order I"ve ever made. LOL

I don’t want to add to your pain but my 3 measly vaccines came in a styrofoam cooler with ice packs :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Well, damnit! LOL

I’ll remember Valley Vet for next time. With them being so much further away, I figured Jeffers was my better bet. Dang.

And this is one of the many reasons why I have my vet do my vaccines.

Your veterinarian gets their vaccines through a guaranteed cold chain from manufacturer to their door. This is why the companies guarantee vaccine efficacy if given by a veterinarian. Having a regular relationship with a veterinarian is also the best way to ensure you have one when you need one. With the massive shortage of equine vets this is getting to be a bigger and bigger problem.

There are some assumptions in your comment, @Newberry. I’m aware of how vets receive vaccines. I am also aware of the importance of the close relationship with a vet. In fact, she has always done our bi-annual vaccines along with everything else. She has been at the farm three times in the last 30 days for my idiot horse who injured his leg while spooking. LOL She is also readily available in a timely manner when we reach out to her because we do have such a great relationship with her. I was simply hoping to avoid yet another exorbitant farm call fee this one time due to all the other costs I’ve just had, and will have again when yet another vet comes to do further work on him at the end of this month.

Did I get myself screwed over in shipping these dang vaccines though? Yep. LOL

LOL you think that having vaccines shipped means there’s no regular relationship with a vet? Uh, yeah, no. It doesn’t mean that.
