This is amazing in so many ways to me, both the horse and rider look superb.

I think the biggest thing I took away from the video was how different Valegro moves with Charlotte and with Ruby, Carl’s god-daughter. Not in a bad way! But, more of a testament to Charlotte’s skills to bring so much out of a horse. I find it fascinating.

I’m not a dressage rider, but I’ll gladly admit I’m jealous of a little girl! What a pleasure to watch, this is a great horse in so many ways.

What a once in a lifetime experience. I would give anything to be able to sit on Valegro or take a lesson on him!

The young lady is a nice rider. The horse is a unicorn and an angel.

Hm…I’ve got a birthday coming up… Yes, what a beautiful little rider on a lovely and a very, very, very well-trained horse. What a dream come true, I’d imagine, to ride him.

And after that, does she have to go back to riding her pony?

Her dad is Gareth Hughes so I expect talent runs in the family and that she’s been exceptionally well taught from a very young age. So lovely to watch.

The young lady is 11 years, and not expected to have the physical strengths, and coordination to ride like Charlotte.

She does indeed do very well.

I think the point is (or at least my thoughts anyway) is just how much spectacular gaits are created through training and produced by the rider. It’s nice to see a horse can go from rather ordinary to trotting for a 10 and show just how much we as riders can improve our own horse’s gaits

He moves differently because he has a grass belly ! He has earned it, and his retirement from the highest level of fitness.

Yes, that is what I was getting at. Of course an 11 y/o isn’t physically comparable to Charlotte. Valegro is a gorgeous mover regardless of who is riding him. But it amazes me (again, in a good, lightbulb moment, kind of way) to see how much a rider, such as Charlotte, is capable of influencing a horse’s movement.

It’s worth stating that Valegro is an incredible horse and an outlier regarding temperament of Negro babies. Negro is very talented. I think many people are realizing now that the average Negro baby doesn’t have the temperament of Valegro.

Also remember that a horse who is Grand Prix competition fit will look different than one who is in regular work but not going to have to string together three international tests in 3 days after flying halfway around the world.

Some of that flash comes from pure strength.

Are Negro babies usually pretty spicy?

True, but he still looked even more fabulous today based off of the videos posted on Facebook. Again, a great testament to how a rider, such as Charlotte, is able bring the best out of a horse.

They are considered to be “Tricky”. About 12 years ago, I almost bred to Negro. A friend’s daughter owned one (did the European young horse stuff and then sold him) and was a working student at the place that owned/stood Negro. She rode lots of his babies and gave me advice about what she thought tended come through with his babies. Most were talented, but not amateur rides.

That said, at the time I boarded with a Negro baby who was a sweetheart and went to I1, but struggled with shivers early on. I guess you are always playing the odds where your baby will fall on the bell curve. But I always would like to stack the odds in my favor!
