Value of a Sad Hermes Saddle?

I got a bulk buy of schooling english saddles and noticed one was an old Hermes, I know nothing of the brand because its far beyond anything I could afford, and looking at ebay is no use to me because I am quite sure its not worth THAT much.

I havent taken exact measurements - but its in the 16-17" range,
its dry, but all the leather is in good shape besides that. Stitching is good, flocking is surprisingly fluffy. Its an older style, which as a saddle in general, doesnt fly off the racks

If all else fails, I’ll put it on ebay for what I would sell a no-brand of the same style, and watch.

the leather around skirt is the driest, as you can see here. Definitely a flaw, but the entirety of the saddle isnt bad.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

It’s probably worth somewhere around $150-200.

It’s just not a style people are interested in, despite its brand name.

Yeah, there are a lot of these on eBay listed with big price tags - they don’t sell.

If you can revive the leather, I’d think it would be worth a bit more than the above quote. Not thousands, but a few hundred. Sadly, it would be more marketable if it had knee pads/rolls. But I bet if more people would actually sit in one, they would realize what a well-built saddle those are. Breaks my heart to see the old style saddles get no love today.

I’ve always liked those old flat saddles, and the Hermes ones were definitely quality at some point. Unfortunately, those old ones, while basically warhorses, aren’t exactly selling for much even with the Hermes name, from what I can tell. I’d buy one because they’re good saddles, but I wouldn’t pay any more than I’d pay for a Crosby PDN from the same era.

I agree with Trixie. If you sell it for the famous name you’ll never get anyone to buy it. $150 - $250

Can you find measurements? Seat size? Tree Width?
If tree is not broken or crooked or needs an expensive reflocking, I’d chance it.

My favorite saddle ever was a minimalist flat, close contact Crosby Equilibrium (Tad Coffin). My trainer like it too - said felt like her Hermes.

Please private message if you have info & want to sell.

Revive the leather and unclutter the photo and there’s a chance you could get $3-400.
I’ve been looking for a pancake, but it seems most that are still around are not made for those with (crazy) long legs!

I’m in agreement with Trixie. I love those old saddles, but I would pay more just because it was a Hermes. $200 would be tops for me.

With the TB’s coming back into fashion a little you might be surprised what you can get for it , they fit TB’s pretty easily unlike a lot of the newer padded saddles .

I had a flat Hermes, and now I have a flat Crosby. The Crosby is so much more comfortable and the leather seems sturdier. I sold my Hermes on ebay for a few hundred dollars for someone that was going to use it as a decoration in their living room.

You can always try shining it up a bit and taking it to an antiques dealer. Maybe they’ll believe it’s worth more than we do?

Marcella, Which flat Crosby do you have?

Keep it as moments. My old one is vintage in my tack room and I cherish it. You’ll get nothing. Plus the tree too small for anyone today but a skinny TB

If it measures 16 or 16.5 from bottom to the center of the seat I WANT it… Seriously, mine is falling apart and I need another one. PM me.
