Vancouver/Langley area barns with sales horses?

My trainer and I are heading up to BC over Thanksgiving weekend to go horse hunting! We’ll be driving up from OR on Friday and staying Saturday and Sunday to try as many as we can. Not to get too specific and make this an ad, but we’re looking for 2 hunters and a jumper. Mostly looking for young’ns/greenies to bring along as we’re all on a bit of a budget (ranging from low to mid-5s), but we’d like them to at least be jumping small courses. We’d be willing to take a ferry to Vancouver Island if there was a really good reason.

Trainer has some contacts already, but asked me if I could do a little research this week to find some more barns we might not have heard of. Anybody have some recommendations for who to call up there?

Balisky’s at TB Show Stables.

Get a hold of Tracey Epp. She’s usually got some nice prospects. Might not be quite low enough for your price range - but never hurts to ask.

Removed. Previously recommended trainer has unfortunately been behaving badly.

I don’t know anything about her, but Natasha Brash has some nice horses on her youtube channel under Silver Fox Horse Sales.

Thank you all for the suggestions! This has been really helpful. I’ve passed the names on to my trainer so she can give them a call and see what they have available.

Dreamscape Farms in Langley BC, they have some gorgeous horses and from what I hear are wonderful to deal with.

Natasha Brash does a great job.

If you are looking for a lower budget hunter/jumper you can PM me I have a few for sale in BC

Possibly out of your price range but there’s also Bobby Rebar at Milner Downs , they always have very nice hunters and jumpers

If you’re looking for a real green project, get in touch with New Stride. They’re BC’s CANTER, essentially. Lovely OTTBs!

Send me a PM with more specifics you’re looking for and I can forward any Vancouver Island horses that might fit the bill.

I am sure you know this-your US money will go farther in Canada. As of today, one US dollar is 1.33 Canadian. It is a good time to shop!

Plus, you can try some poutine for lunch or dinner.

Limerick, that is entirely the idea!! My budget (the lowest of the 3) was pretty limiting for us in the US but 90% of the horses my trainer’s heard about in BC fit the bill.

Thank you all again! Trainer has called up just about everyone listed and we have a huge crop of horses to look through next weekend. This is my first shopping trip of my first horse search so I’m so excited to head up!

Awesome…and you can try poutine.

This is one of the BEST areas to buy horses! I once got to go shopping at almost all the above barns as a rider of perspective horses, for a few of my trainers clients (not purchaser!) and it was incredible. Tons of nice, nice horses around $5k up to $100. Some nice jr hunters for $20! Silver Fox (Natasha B) sold quite a few at this time. Have fun!

Just to update everyone on the trip – we spent a glorious and hectic 2.5 days in the Langley area, tried 31 (!!!) horses, and found some lovely ones in our budget. Definitely, DEFINITELY worth the drive. Thank you all so much for your suggestions here and over PM. Now all that’s left is to let the trip marinate a little and decide on a couple to re-try and vet in a week or two!

(and yes, we tried poutine!)
