VDL Tenerife Offspring temperament.

Is anyone familiar with whether VDL Tenerife offspring are amateur friendly? I have one who is now four out of my Ikoon mare. He is 17 hands and a lovely mover and jumper but is a sharp horse. I am not breeding my mare again. At present the trainer is the only one who rides him, although I have ridden him. Does anyone know if these babies will settle with age? I have another horse to ride and am willing to wait for him but am an older amateur who works long hours and cannot afford to be hurt. Have been riding all of my life.

The one I bred was easy and sold to an adult amateur. He was easy.

He is a gelding. My trainer loves him. He thinks he is not naughty but that he is big and kind of ADD. He does not buck or bolt. He has some focus issues if there are other horses present. I rode him all winter and he was great, but as he has gotten fitter, and older, his personality became bigger. He does not buck or bolt or spook, he is just a lot of horse. It feels like driving a Ferrari. And it happened as he hit four. I think my trainer thinks he is a lot of horse for me but has only been riding him for a few weeks. In my gut, I think he will settle. HIs mother was a lot of horse at four and is quiet now. My trainer also wants to buy him from me for upper level eventing, so between us, I am aware that he sees so much potential in the horse for his own purposes. If I grow into the horse, he will never jump higher than 2 6 and will lead a life of leisure.

That sounds encouraging. I think my four year old is just going through a coming of age stage.
