For whatever reason I’m also not able to view the TikTok videos. I’m on a Kindle Fire, maybe that makes a difference. Honestly though, I’m kind of glad since I wouldn’t be able to un-see them and they’d be stuck in my brain for way too long
Thank you.
I am in your camp, my prayers are for the foal suffering to end.
I grabbed a quick snip of the video of the almost 6-month-old colt. Decide for yourself, but this is no life for a horse.
Yeah, I really wish for an end for him, and soon. It’s gotten ridiculous. The “Seven Strong” merchandise makes me ill.
What’s the blue thing stuck to his hip?
I went down the rabbit hole and saw the video on FB. I have nothing kind to say about this situation. The owner is a most off putting person.
No clue I watched the video long enough to grab a screenshot. She was talking about how well he was doing, etc. I had to turn it off.
Bandage over bone graft site
I can’t play them on my phone, but I can on my computer. That said, I haven’t watched more than a little of the recent videos
There’s merch??? OMG
Poor little guy
I can’t believe they fused the fetlock in a foal. What has that done to his growth plates? I just don’t see how this will turn out positively.
I thought they could give it the old college try once he had enough bone to stand but flat out he hasn’t responded in a manner sufficient to support his little body. They seem to have definitely gotten to the we can do ‘whatever’ procedure but I agree, they shouldn’t. Give the poor thing his final peace.
One of our COTH posters had a premature foal this year and he looks great.
Fuego is a really good comparison. That’s a baby that has some major intervention but appears to have responded well! Poor Seven is… not.
The merch has changed my opinion that this isn’t about money/clicks/internet fame. Sorry, but you don’t put out Seven specific merch if you’re “just posting about farm life and doing the best for the horse”.
People in the comments begged for merchandise. A lot for their disabled children, talking about how they have been showing the videos to these kids for inspiration. None seemed to understand that a horse is an absolutely terrible inspiration for a disabled child, given that the ultimate lesson there is become able or die.
Yeah so what do these people tell their kids when she puts him down? I wonder how much that may be driving this futile pursuit at the expense of the suffering animal.
ETA: to be clear, I don’t think it’s a valid reason to keep going. She should have shut that down the moment people started saying he’s an “inspiration”.
Yeah, I tried at the beginning to reply to a few comments, just to explain that horses cannot live handicapped like people can, but people are seemingly extremely ignorant about animals of every kind, and also don’t read…
But it would not take long for her to explain in a video that it’s an all or nothing thing that the horse cannot survive with limited Mobility or physical limitations.
I’m just picturing a bunch of children with limitations out there suffering from nightmares after this whole thing goes south.
So, where are the vets that are advocating to put a stop to this and let this poor thing go? Disabled animals are not the same as disabled people. It is okay to euthanize an animal that will never have a good quality of life. This horse will never be truly sound and will always be compensating. Survival instinct != will to live.
The vets are probably the ones pushing for the next procedure. I believe they care, but they focus on the here an now and not the long term out come.
I firmly believe that this was the case with the initial clinic that treated this colt for months, but I do not believe it to be the case now that he is at UT. If you watch/listen closely, you will detect a distinct difference in the tone of the updates after he was moved.
My unfortunate experiences with vet schools are that they are very slow to recommend euthanasia. If at all.
