This is the Nov 23 update on baby Seven. Scroll through to almost the end of the video to see the colt. I appreciate seeing him greedily snarf up the hay but still question everything else.
New update just now—this is the most “normal” he’s looked moving around.
Latest update (it’s the Facebook link as I don’t use ticktock, hope it works)
There’s no video, just a few pics.
A year old and can’t walk across campus because it’s too exhausting for him. Has to be “trailered” to get on the swim treadmill. He’s so normal!
Disgusting.
I mean, it does make sense to save his energy for the treadmill. Not to mention that a long trek like that is a lot to ask of any baby from a mental/training aspect.
I’m feeling… a little less disgusted by the whole thing given that he has made some progress. Time will tell though. Still a bit tough to stomach.
…
It’s a lot to ask a yearling to walk a couple of blocks? Someone needs to come tell my yearling she needs to stop doing zoomies around the pasture for hours on end… you know, like a normal yearling.
There’s no progress being made except that he’s larger, and putting even more weight on his malformed legs. Look at his hock in that photo.

I personally know a filly who stuck her foot through a trailer when she was a yearling. Took off her entire hoof. A local vet convinced the family - who had money, like KVS - that with enough money, she’d live a healthy life. No showing, of course, but relatively “normal”. That poor filly lived in a 12’ x 24’ stall for the next decade of her life, until she was finally euthanized. In her lifetime, she wasn’t capable of being turned out without significant risk. She couldn’t have any equine friends because she hobbled around. She lived in four concrete walls and was fed twice a day. And for what? To what end? Money for the vet? Avoiding the emotional baggage of having to make a tough call as an owner?
It’s so gross that people are still defending this. I’d bet my salary that poor animal is never going to get to a point where he’s comfortable just living in a pasture being a horse. And for what? Veterinary research? For KVS to make money off of content? Like - what is the “end goal” here? See how far we can go before we have to call it? If it’s going to be a science experiment, fine, but let’s stop pretending this is cute and reasonable.
I mean… he’s not a normal yearling, he’s lived his entire life in a vet hospital.
And I’m far from defending her. Maybe I have some (morbid?) curiosity to see if he can live a semi normal horse life. I don’t think he can, but wishful thinking. It’s very clear that she’s not going to stop trying with him, for better or for worse.
I definitely would’ve PTS on day 1.
The vet school is making money off of him too.
Tens and tends of thousands of dollars. He’s a cash cow and has brought a lot of visibility to the vet school.
If he’s coming up on a year of hospitalization and averaging $500/day that’s $182,500. I’d guess that his daily average is probably a good bit higher given the interventions to date even if he has less going on now.
Imagine how many rescued horses could have been saved with that money.
This. This one foal could have funded a large community-wide gelding event, provided care for a huge herd of moderate needs horses for a year, etc. The slippery slope of compassion to a horse that never has and never will live a normal pain free existence is hard for me to understand.
I had the same thought. If KVS’s motivation was compassion for unfortunate creatures, couldn’t she have adopted or sponsored several other hard luck horses? I’d think that, with her apparent knack for enterprise ( ) and social media savvy, she could still have an adoring fan base and sell merch while saving horses that would otherwise meet a bad end.
Granted, I have no idea if she already contributes to equine charities. Perhaps she does. But this thing with Seven is so blatantly self-serving for her, and by association the vet school, that I find it beyond distasteful. At least that’s my opinion.
I heart you!!! This whole thing has always made me skin crawl. Disgusting is an understatement. Maybe when the vet school tires of him, he can get a job at the local lab with beagles and monkeys for more “horsie” experiments. Sickening.
FWIW, vet schools can be weird about this no matter what. When I took my horse to a large school for a dynamic scope, the arena was about 3 small city blocks (all within campus) from the horsepital. The vets all thought I was nuts to just walk my horse rather than loading back up and driving over. In retrospect, it was cold, and I actually would have preferred to drive, but I had closed everything up and figured it would be almost as quick to walk. It was, but it was three tiny blocks of cold lol

not all publicity is good publicity
I would like those with the authority to treat this as if the situation was as serious as an undocumented pet squirrel and whisk Seven away to a peaceful end he deserves.
I know that’s too much to ask.
No way she’s out of pocket that much money plus she makes $$ on people clicking on her monetized FB & IG post.
I would not have made the choices with Seven that she made.
Why not ? Charges are pretty much standard in large hospitals. Just because she might have click money doesn’t mean the costs aren’t enormous.
