Very premature foal

I’m glad Sydney is ok at least. Sheesh. Breeding is such heartbreak.

I am so sorry about your foal.

Is your mare the draft that Katie mentions in her latest Seven update? I don’t think Sydney is a draft??? .

At 3:50 she “wishes she had permission from the owner of a draft horse” because apparently she has a photo of the two of them at the stall door next to each other.

Thank you very much.

No, Sydney is an Arabian/QH cross. She didn’t stay in the hospital overnight and was just stalled next to Seven for an hour or so while she came out of her sedation so I could load her back up. Sydney isn’t a very big girl, and even she looked like a giant next to Seven. I can only imagine what he looks like next to a draft horse!

I was sort of hoping Sydney magically was the draft. I would love to see a photo of Seven next to a draft!

He is so wee.

I followed her channel for 2 days. Then had to unfollow. Way to cute and just seems like more money then sense for the sake of social media.

Glad the foal is doing well.

Here’s the latest. He’ll be 3 months old in 2 days. They’ve just put different not casts on all 4 legs so he’s coming out of sedation there’s x-rays of his knees and hocks. Major difference

Wow, he has bones now. Those birth x-rays are insane.

The x-rays are great to look at, but the longer this goes on the more I think it’s not in the best interest of that foal.

It’s hard to know when to pull the plug, especially when money isn’t a factor. If he had been mine, he would have been euthanized at birth. I wouldn’t have been able to afford the vet bills!

I don’t know. I’m pretty sure she and her vets would put him down if they felt that would be best. I know she knows he won’t be more than a pasture pet

I couldn’t have afforded the vet bills either. In his case, for me, putting him down would have definitely been the best decision right at the start

When I was breeding, my hard-heart told me a few times to put one down but I had to try, it didn’t take long for me to make that hard decision though

It’s a personal decision for sure. But I’ve seen some adult horses with crooked legs that limit their mobility, and I always find myself wishing that someone had made a different decision earlier in their life. They don’t seem to have much quality of life.

Personal decision but imho foal should have been euthanized. His quality of life as an adult is going to be minimal.

Hard to know if this is a feel good story or just a $$ / views. She’s making a killing off his videos, etc.

I thought in the video she’s concerned about his legs growing properly so I imagine if they don’t straighten correctly, and/or the vets tell her, she’ll put him down.

@luvmyhackney what do you think about people keeping dogs alive that have no use of their back legs? and they put them in doggy wheelchairs? I would put those down as I don’t really think their quality of life is the greatest.

I don’t think she’s keeping him alive for money, she’s got plenty of other creatures to promote on social media.

I’ll probably get flamed for my view but I think it’s extremely selfish of the owner/vet to keep an animal alive that isn’t able to live a full and capable life without needing extreme medical intervention. The wheelchair/no use of legs is a borderline for me.

It’s not IF we should keep them alive because vets are just amazing in their capabilities, but what’s in the best interest of the animal and will they be able to function well enough to have quality of life.

Sha has stated in previous posts that Seven will only be a pasture pet and he will live at the farm as long as he is alive and comfortable.

While she gets too cutesy like others upthread have stated, she is not blind to what his outcome will be like.

The amount of money her TT makes is most likely well over $10K a month, plus all of her other SM accounts. And of course her own money.

I am glad that she is showing this side to breeding. Most of us would not ever encounter a premie foal like this and while something in the back of my mind says that the vets may be encouraging her a little bit so they can gain experience (I hope that is not the case). I feel totally bad for the mare who is also on stall rest because Seven is in Foal NICU.

The mare has gone home a few weeks ago. I didn’t share that post because some of the posts about this situation aren’t that interesting

Anyway they decided that since he wasn’t really nursing on her and they weren’t that bonded, and it wasn’t in the mare’s best interests they should take her home. So she’s home and enjoying herself out on grass and not missing little Seven

Thanks for that update. I don’t actively follow her, I just pop in every so often. The last saw Gracie was still there.

You’re welcome, but I was incorrect about turn out. I guess she had only put her on grass for a short time when I saw that update video. She posted last night that the mare’d been on a dry lot because she’s too fat! So she has been getting short grass time but now she’s increasing it.

She put her with 2 younger mares. She’s in foal again. She looks good, doing the I’m a grey/white horse so I must have plenty of filthy splotches on me

I can post that video later if you want to see it. It’s kinda long and boring since she does so much explaining in her posts.
