Very specific bit search!

I am looking for a very specific type of bit for my mare’s tiny mouth/large tongue/fleshy lips/low palate. Here’s what I need the bit to be…
*13mm or thinner mouthpiece
*Eggbutt cheek pieces
*Eggbutt rings 2.5” or smaller
*Needs to be double jointed (French link, lozenge, etc
*Mouthpiece made of copper, sweet iron, or really anything that isn’t plain ol’ stainless steel

Anybody know of a bit that would fit my very specific needs? I’m finding it difficult to find one online so far!

Look on ebay, there are sooo many bits on ebay.

You can also try https://www.horsebitbank.com/, I have ordered from them with no issue.

I’ve searched eBay at length and I did find one bit on there that looked promising but I need to find out what the ring size is because it may be too big to fit nicely on my bridle…https://www.ebay.com/itm/JP-Korsteel-Sweet-Iron-French-Link-Eggbutt-Snaffle-Bit-WB1175/362775607902?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180816085401%26meid%3Df77def113575453b8d420194669302f4%26pid%3D100970%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D362775607902%26itm%3D362775607902%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100970.m5481&_trkparms=pageci%3Ac30fcebd-3ebf-11ea-b3ab-74dbd1802241|parentrq%3Ad835a53d16f0a9cd81ee8faeffff3334|iid%3A1

shoot them a message! Make sure you search “worldwide” too so you don’t miss any listings!

The thinnest I can find is 14mm, but Springer and NS both make 14mm double jointed, copper alloy, eggbutt bradoon with 55mm rings. Nice and little.

Stubben has a stainless with copper lozenge eggbutt with 14mm mouthpiece and reasonably small rings. I would guess them to be under 2.5" because they are smaller than my Stubben baucher and it’s only about 2.5", small enough that i use it as my bradoon in my double with no issues.

if your mare is narrow enough for pony bits, you might have more luck finding 13mm, but I’m not finding anything 13mm that isn’t just regular stainless.

What size mouthpiece do you need? Neue schule’s performance pony range would suit (trans angled eggbutt) but only 4.5. Or look for an eggbutt bradoon, I’ve used them instead of regular sniffles in similar situations.

This one looks neat! But do you happen to know if it’s dressage legal?

You know I’m not sure if she’d fit into a true pony bit…maybe a 4.75” but probably not a 4.5”. But great suggestion!

This one is definitely on my short list, thanks!

NS Turtle Top, but I’d have to check the ring size.

I don’t see why not. It’s wider than 10 mm, egg butt cheeks are legal, and beans are legal. You can check DR 121.

Isn’t there a rule that the mouthpiece cannot be made of mixed metals? So the one with the copper bean wouldn’t be legal?

Nope.
There is no such rule.

I was more worried about the rule of rotating pieces but then I zoomed in on the bit and realized it’s not a rotating piece anyway, just an optical illusion! So I’m sure it’s legal  I wish they listed the ring measurement though because they look big.

Their loose ring version of the bradoon is 55mm which is about 2.2 inches

You might want to check with Myler. Their mouthpieces are on the thinner side. I’m pretty sure they do custom work if they don’t have exactly what you need in their usual stock.

I have a Myler Level 2 loose ring in 4 3/4" size that my horse really likes.
