I’m hopeful someone on here can help me out. I’ll be moving to the area for schooling this summer and for the next two years or so. I am looking for vet and farrier recommendations as well as those to avoid. The horse will be boarded on post, so those who can access the post would be great (I need to verify if I can sponsor a pass, or if I need to escort people on/off post, or how that works).
We lived in the area a few years ago, not always easy to find equine specific vets but there is a new mobile vet that services the area, Magnolia Veterinary Services, LLC, I don’t know anything about them as they weren’t there when we lived there. We usually used Dr. Syfrett in Taylor, AL would do farm calls but he did not have diagnostic equipment like Xray or ultrasound, or sometimes a vet from Bonifay FL. Also, for an equine dentist, Dr. Tyler Dees, he’s not in the area but travel thru there, he’s really good. Can’t offer names for farriers but I’m sure there are several that work Ft. Novasel. If you have anything really serious with equines they are usually referred to Auburn, though there is a great equine hospital in Pell City too.
I know this vet from when she was in school at Auburn & I came to recommend her. I had good experiences with her in Auburn so I assume she should be good now too! She also does chiro on top of the vet stuff, so thats always good to have.
