As breeders we utilize veterinarians more than most… I am curious … Approximately what would your regular vet charge for a weekend emergency visit for a mild colic involving a tranq and tubing mineral oil ( just in case) …
$240
I would expect to pay at least $200 for a weekend emergency exam and farm call, with all other services being additional.
Remember that you can ask your vet for an estimate before services are rendered.

In September it ran me $246.00
My vet is terrific. he wont surcharge for weekends or evenings. He just says he wasn’t doing anything anyhow …
So - probably under $100.00 depending on what he did and what he administered
But I also keep Dormo, Torb and Banamine on hand so about the only thing I wouldn’t do is the stomach tube of oil into them but in a pinch, I could get my big dose syringes out and just put the whole bottle down their throats that way …
80 for farm call plus expenses… So probably around 200. Luckily have not needed that call for about 6 years now…
Here, $275.
500 here
Weekend emergency visit is about $200 - so probably around $350. I also keep banamine on hand… Hope your colic resolved itself!

Please don’t. Mineral oil has no taste, so they don’t realize it’s in their mouths and needs to be swallowed. Pretty easy for the horse to aspirate into the lungs. Aspiration pneumonia from mineral oil is very bad news.
^^ What she said! Do not do that with the mineral oil!! That is why we use a vet for specific treatments/tubing in emergency situations.
I had one of these a few months ago and IIRC it was around $350-375 for a physical exam (heart/lung/gut ascultation, temp), rectal exam, tubing with water and oil, pain meds, and checking the horse’s poop back at the clinic (I think they do a quick look for parasites and sand). No sedation. This was an ambulatory call.

^^^ This.
Colic exam, rectal, tubing and meds all additional.
Agree with everyone else. We are in Alberta, Canada and it would likely be around the $240 range as well. Weekend calls are the worst! It is very rare that we ever have to call a vet, but if we do, you can bet it will end up being on a Saturday night. Sigh!
Love California - $485
$400 - $500 here in Newnan, GA but that’s all inclusive and includes IV fluids after tubing/gastric lavage.
$400-$500 here.
These threads are always depressing - we have come to the realization that we are unreasonably overcharged by our local vets. We had a mare colic on a holiday this past summer (and remained on property - had the usual visit and exam) and the bill was $1000. The vet did bloodwork and all the additional (some arguably unnecessary) exams/procedures, but the bill still seemed outrageous and seems even more so in the context of what everyone else is paying for similar services. We are seriously considering looking into a new vet practice.
$375 last year.
