Vet in Ocala for PPE

Can anyone recommend a vet in Ocala that can do a pre-purchase exam for a horse at HITS. Thanks!

Dr. Barber is show vet. Might start there, or Peterson and Smith.

I used Dr. Blair but Dr. Verney was also recommended, both at Ocala Equine.

Peterson and Smith are the way to go. I most recently used Dr. Cadena for a PPE in July and was very pleased.

I used Peterson and Smith for a PPE in October and was very disappointed. The vet (one of their senior vets) knew I was buying the horse sight unseen, yet he failed to make any mention of the Sweet Itch the horse had all along his belly ( on the phone he said that the horse had the usual Florida skin crud, but nothing was written down), or the sarcoid on his neck (big as a silver dollar), or the incomplete castration which made the horse look like he still had a testicle (Very apparent, I noticed it as soon as he got here). :frowning:

None of which alone would have made me reject him, but taken together these problems would have caused me to turn the horse down.

That said, I like the horse, but he is a real maintenance problem who requires surgery (which I have not yet had done because my insurance has refused to cover it… :frowning: )

I would not ever use them again.

We just sold a horse here in Ocala and the buyer used Dr Karyn Labbe of Peak Performance, and she is affiliated with Dr B Furlong and Dr T Ober. She was VERY thorough and I will definitely plan to use her if we even need to vet one for ourselves. I think she touched every hair on his whole body.

Damn, girl! You arrive in Ocala and have one sold and vetted the first week! That is impressive.
