Sinead Halpin is going Intermediate on 14.2 hands of mare, don’t let height get in your way of your goals![/QUOTE]
But you do have to consider height.
You really do have to take care with a horse that is much smaller than average. The strides in combinations are set for horses, not ponies. Even if your pony has a horse-sized stride, you have to be aware of the difference.
This one has competed up to Prelim, and it’s been easy for her because she’s got loads of ability and is very well-prepared. This mare’s 16.1hh half-sister was competing at Advanced at this age (9) and which one of the two is the better horse? The pony, in all respects – but we don’t kid ourselves that we can treat her like she’s 16hh or even 15.2hh.
Too bad there’s no FEI pony eventing, which goes up to CCI** level, in North America. She’d be perfect for it.
