video: my pony, show jumping

Everybody likes a pony. Ponies tap into that collective cute-seeking gene that forms the backbone of the internet.

So here’s my own personal pony, who was not supposed to be a pony, jumping last weekend at Carolina Horse Park.

video: Zizi at CBES

She also did dressage, which is boring, but you can see what a lovely mover she is.

She’s lovely, and you rode her beautifully in SJ (didn’t watch the dressage yet, so no comment there). I have known a few Akhal Teke crosses, all of them very nice horses.

WOW,!! Really nice round,

She just gets lovelier and lovelier! Congrats JER and glenbaer!

That’s not me. That’s Glenbaer.

I don’t look anywhere near that elegant, on a horse or otherwise. I also don’t wear white because I look like Pigpen in a matter of minutes.

We bred our lovely TB Kissy Kiss to Zizi’s sire, Super Star, and have another Akhal-Teke cross for next spring.

Adorable pony, and what a lovely stadium round! She took those jumps so easily.

She is lovely! Congrats, JER.

Great front end, nice forward round and not even close to the poles. What more can you ask for? Very nice.

Very nicely ridden, Glenbaer!!

A little taller than 14.2hh?

We love this horse. JMP thinks she got everything it takes to be world-class.

Except she’s 14.2hh, and not like a horse 14.2hh. Think goat. Tiny. Over a hand shorter than either parent.

She has a towering ego, if that makes any difference. #1 in the barn, and everyone knows it.

Sinead Halpin is going Intermediate on 14.2 hands of mare, don’t let height get in your way of your goals!

Gorgeous girl.

But you do have to consider height. You really do have to take care with a horse that is much smaller than average. The strides in combinations are set for horses, not ponies. Even if your pony has a horse-sized stride, you have to be aware of the difference.

This one has competed up to Prelim, and it’s been easy for her because she’s got loads of ability and is very well-prepared. This mare’s 16.1hh half-sister was competing at Advanced at this age (9) and which one of the two is the better horse? The pony, in all respects – but we don’t kid ourselves that we can treat her like she’s 16hh or even 15.2hh.

Too bad there’s no FEI pony eventing, which goes up to CCI** level, in North America. She’d be perfect for it.

yabbut what about Teddy/Grasshopper/Stroller? She’s got the stride…

No wonder Pete adores our mutual friend. She’s a much better rider than I am :sigh:
