I saw that one the other day. Whatever they’re paying her, there is no possible way it’s enough. Lol.
The “is there a forum for that” line at the end killed me.
But ya, freaking superwoman.
The Boyd Martin Operation is something to see if you are at a local horse trial and he has a few greenbeans! They are efficient!
I remember when Jersey Fresh used to have a 3* (which is really close to where his operation is located in PA). Boyd would bring SO MANY horses, literally it felt like every time you turned around on the cross-country course, he was coming through with another one. And he’s definitely a taskmaster. She truly seems like a superwoman (and looks insanely fit, if that’s okay to say).
I was exhausted watching her truck around with that backpack on. I’m sure Boyd knows she’d be hard to replace since that was posted on his facebook.
I know, right? I hope the backpack doesn’t have anything heavy in it!
I love that she walks the XC courses in some of the videos too and gets to ride a bit at home - really impressed by her!
I don’t know for a fact, but I’ll bet a lot of them ride at home. They have a lot of horses that need to get out every day and get legged up.
I seem to recall that in the video of the last gallop before they left for Paris, I think she was the one on his second horse.
She said there were two working students. What were they doing?
If I heard correctly they each had a horse to ride in the Prelim, and then were helping her keep the wheels turning in the barn when done competing.
This seems about correct, and though it’s a long day it seems manageable since she has assistants who are (for instance) holding the horses during swapping. (This seems about right for the length of a competition day, lol, they’re brutal.)
The braids probably take her 15 minutes or so, maybe 20. One thing she’s NOT shown doing here is mucking the stalls … I’m really hoping they have other folks (WS?) for that who are NOT her. I am beyond impressed - total fangirl here!
ETA - I totally agree that whatever the pay is, it’s probably not enough for days this long!
They must have a pretty impressive organizational system in place.
When they decide to take the event horses to a jumper show for some mileage, it sounds like they will often have 12 or 14 horses there on either a day trip or an overnight trip, depending on how many trailer slots they have available. That would take some pretty intense juggling skills.
My trainer spent a few years working for Robin Walker and she said they would go to shows, he’d have five or six horses to ride, she and the other WS would have three or four each, and they would have to make sure each of his rides were ready when he needed them in addition to being ready with their own.
Once she told me that it made a lot more sense to me how she can do the barn work for twenty horses (including bringing in and turning back out) on her own in under two hours, lol. It’s definitely an art form.
