Villa Louis Carriage Show Sept 2019

@cabz Google tells me everything! I’d be surprised if it can’t pinpoint charging stations AND tell you how to get to them

I will see VL Hopeful friends on Sunday & will make it a point to ask if we’re still On.

My mini & I are Cones newbs, & enjoying the heck out of them.
Right now the thought of doing the Marathon/Cross Country @ VL is still too daunting.
32 obstacles set over a course that takes 1/2hr to walk
I’d need a 'gator & as we’re in cart…:concern:

Have found some chargers, use PlugShare.com, shows all types of chargers for US and Canada. Also some hotels have chargers”‹”‹”‹”‹. We also plan on camping, so can charge at electric sites. Just did a road trip around Lake Ontario, camped 4 nites at NY state parks.
Heading to the barn early to drive before the heat!!!
The planning continues!!!

:applause:

How on Earth have I never heard of this show! And it is just up river…well five hours but that is still close for a major horse event!

May have to road trip it this year in order to add to my list of major horse events attended.

@roseymare
You must go!
5h is a trek, but the grounds are beautiful, the turnouts spectacular, food is good & cheap (even the bar 😏) & the history informative.

This was a Standardbred breeding operation in the 1800s.
When the husband died his young widow took over. Scandalous for those times.
The mansion tour is worth the price (free to exhibitors) with a lot of original furnishings & fascinating day-to-day history.

One caveat:
If you want to stay overnight booking a room nearby can be problematical. So plan now!

Five hours is child’s play. I am on my way home from an 11 hour. Normally do it in one day on at least on end but circumstances this trip have made both to and from 2 day jaunts.

”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹Is there enough going on Saturday late afternoon and Sunday to warrent leaving Saturday instead of Friday?

Here is the website with show schedule etc. Lots of good info!!!

Just wanted to add the Carriage Classic is the only horse show that takes place on the property.
The rest of the year Villa Louis is part of WI State Park system.
Kudos to WI!

 Well, the other shoe dropped & the friends who were supposed to go to this show with me have bailed.
So I am hauling in my nets & will not attend this year.

Both the 5H drive solo & the expense of a non-shared room have put the kibosh on my plans.

But, I am nothing if not determined, & have found a show closer to home for next year.
ADS-rated Midwest Carriage Classic, also in WI, but a mere 2.5h drive.

I hope @cabz reports back on the gloriousness of VL

As for me & Bugs - look for us at the Ntl Drive in October.
Onward & Upward! :encouragement:

I’m sorry you don’t get to go, @2DogsFarm. That’s a big disappointment.

Rebecca

I am sorry that the trip got canceled. I was looking forward to seeing more pictures of you and Bugs and hearing about your escapades.

Yeah, I am disappointed. But it’s not like I didn’t have an inkling it would be No Go.

Anyhow, next is the National Drive 4 Sure!
And I don’t even need to get dressed up for that

@cayuse pics & tales will follow

Pssst!
See my Annual Brag thread on this forum for most current pics

Sorry to hear that 2Dogs…I’m sure you will have a blast at the National Drive and loved seeing your pictures

Drive on and keep us posted!

BUMP!

@cabz Please post here about your visit to the Carriage Classic.
If possible, pics please

I need to hear about it, feel like I was there, even vicariously

@2DogsFarm Most certainly will try and post, but will not know about access to internet etc. Never posted pics, but will try, if DH takes good ones, which he always does!!! Might be a learning curve. On a side note, heading to see hopefully a great view of the northern lights tonite at a dark sky reserve.

Thanks @cabz

What works for me is to upload pics to a host site (I use imgur) then copy link to this BB.

I am going to try for the Aurora Borealis too.
I’m pretty dark here, but today is overcast, so clouds :frowning:

Have a cocktail @ VL for me & do NOT skip the mansion tour. On Sunday they have $2 ice cream sundaes

Well, I am back, 3000 km later in 11 days!!!

For 2Dogs!!! Villa Louis was lovely. The grounds were lovely, beautiful trees, turnouts etc. We actually ended up camping on the show grounds, so was close to all the action. Did not see any of the events on Friday, but did get a tour of the mansion. Saturday was a lovely day, so watched Turnout class, reinsmanship etc. There was one pony that was bred from the farm I use to drive out of that was doing quite well. Watch some of the Gamblers choice and cross country, but that was mostly spread out over the other side of the road, so only saw a couple of obstacles up close. Sunday started out not bad, but was cloudy and the rain moved in about noon, so about 3, we were getting cold, so left, but only missed about 4 classes at the end of the day. The show does 5 classes for 13 divisions over 2 days, and some additional ones, so very busy all day. Sorry, no pics. There were no 4-in-hands, multiples were 2 tandem and one unicorn hitch. The VSE division had 13 entries. I was speaking to a lady who comes every year to watch and thought the entries were down.

I enjoyed going, but it is a long haul from Ontario. We took the high speed ferry across Lake Michigan, and after VL wandered around Wisconsin and Michigan Went to Mackinac Island, then on to visit our friends. She had competed last year at VL with either a VSE or small pony and single horse. She felt it was very busy compared to Walnut Hill which ran one class at a time, but it was over 5 days and fewer classed per division, but she did enjoy showing at VL.

@2Dogs, enjoy the ND and hope you get to VL next year!!!

@cabz Sorry to reply so late.
Thanks for the report, glad you enjoyed the show.
No 4s & so few multiples is indeed down from past shows I attended.
But it sounds like VSE division is going strong.
I was tied for 12th of 14 when I was there in 2017.
At least you saw the mansion & some of the non-arena classes.
Did you enjoy the vendors (if only to drool)?

I am getting stoked for the Drive.
Sounds like I get to meet @goodhors IRL 😁
