Virginia HUNT WEEK 2009!!

Wasn’t sure if anyone had noted that they seem to be renewing Virginia Hunt Week for 2009!!
Dates are posted online as Oct. 17-25, which makes it two full weekends and a full ‘regular’ week sandwiched between.
The website (www.VaHuntWeek.org) does not give exact details yet - anyone have any insider info on who/what/when/where???!!!

That is great news–I had not heard anything yet! :)

Probably won’t know anything until mid-August.

They FINALLY listed some of the meets/days on the VaHuntWeek.org website. Pretty sketchy, still. If your hunt goes out any of those ‘undecided’ days, please see if your masters can hop into the VHW lineup. I hope we can get several days up here in the north part of the state - it’s really fun to go out day after day with the same folks.
Anybody planning on coming??

That could get very festive. I bet the schedules will be worked out by middle of next month. During that week, do the size of the hunt packs tend to increase significantly or is it more like a dozen here and a few there sort of thing?

The fields can be enormous.

Runs sounds like cavalry charges.

That must be a sight to see. I hope we’ll have good local participation. I can only imagine how awesome it would look with a huge pack coming out of the morning mist that often blankets the fields.

(Lex – ‘Hunt pack’ = hounds. ‘Hunt field’ = riders. I think you mean ‘increasing size of the field’ not the pack. Each hosting hunt just hunts their own hounds.)
But, yes, the fields can be pretty big.

Yeah. That’s exactly what I meant.

:o)
Still waiting for you and your cute girlfriend to come out and ride someday. Perhaps be one of the aforementioned cavalry charge …

It appears the final schedule is up…unseasonably cool here in Virginia this morning, already getting goosebumps just thinking of hearing the huntsman’s horn…some things just get better and better with age…

Well, so much for having the Northern VA hunts participating…

Do they usually participate?

Yes.

My sentiments too…

I hate going over Afton and it is out of the way for me, so that is 3 hunts I can’t make right there…:frowning:

It would have been so nice to have had Rappahannock, and Middleburg, who gave the best breakfast ever several years ago. And Casanova will be sorely missed too, they consistently put on a fantastic hunt breakfast, not to mention the thrill of hunting with their legendary huntsman, Tommy Lee Jones (now I am going to make myself cry!).

Maybe next year?

In the meantime, very VERY grateful they have decided to reinstate this venerable Virginia tradition, and greatly looking forward to having it on the calendar once gain!

Well, Old Dominion has added a bye on the Sunday (Oct. 18) so there are 2 NoVa hunts - Bull Run Saturday the 17th (though that is International Gold Cup day, so there will be few people sticking it out for a long hunt, and less staying on for a two-martini breakfast after.) I’m afraid that part of hunt week conflicts with the new fall hunter pace series (I think our ODH hunt is the same day as the Casanova pace. Drat it.) Alas.
But I’m hoping all of you peeps will come out and see us! I’ll see if I can get the real Hunter’s Rest as the fixture!!!

HR -

I would very much like to come out sometime. hint hint.

JSwan - note conversation re: you on the racing board.
Plus - um, duh, come out anytime. I want a half a side of beef, by the way. When’s it ready?

oh crap - who did I tick off now?

I’m glad you mentioned hamburger because they’re just about done. I’ll call you!
