If you are within driving distance of the VA area, the OD organization puts on some top-notch clinics – this is a FANTASTIC way to get a taste of the distance riding sports, and Bonnie, thank you so much for all of your work!

I really do enjoy the trail work and providing a good trail for others to ride. This event is a great way to come sample our trails. We will have the entire 25 mile loop (used in June as part of our Old Dominion endurance trail) set up and marked for Ride and Tie and training rides. This is a Ride and Tie weekend and competition but we are inviting other riders to come and take advantage of the marked trail and maybe do the R&T clinic too just for fun. You can ride in day light or try night riding by glow sticks.

This is a pretty good loop ride. There are numerous creeks for water, except for the mountain top trail. It has the one big climb but there are no hazardous areas on this trail. Shoes or good boots are a neccessity due to rocky trail conditions. Very doable 25 miles but doing a 12 trail is also an option.

You must use the link on our web site to either register or contact the event organizer, Lani Newcomb DVM
give2bute@aol.com or call (540) 554-2004

If you are not a R&T person and just want to ride you still need to contact the organizer. I hope people will take the opportunity to try something new. If I’m going to mark those trails I’d like to see lots of riders out there!

Bonnie, when we ran our mounted clinic, one of the biggest concerns for new riders was containment and camping with their horse.

What a great way this would be to learn how to camp safely with your horse, ride a well-marked trail (as long or short and as far and fast as you like), meet some of the wonderful and helpful people who are involved with the sport, and learn learn learn!

Please spread the word and folks, do take advantage if you can.

Yeah, I was paranoid about that at first. Learning the how-tos from other people is great. You know the Old Dominion camp now is fully fenced with gorgeous n-climb fencing. We shut the gates for the night and if a horse does get loose they aren’t going anywhere except into the tall grass to graze.

Seeee people, what a great place to come to for your first taste of horse camping!
