The MIPS results were a bit surprising. Feeling glad I stuck with the CO AYR8 that fits me like a glove!

My OneK did terribly! I’m very sad as it fits me quite well. I had switched from GPA to OneK, but it’s looking like I may need to switch back.

My new CO My PS? :disappointed:

Same! Mine CO MyS is a few years old now so at least not a recent financial decision but oooof, I was hoping for at least more than one star! Might be rethinking things soon!!

Was hoping they’d do the CO Halo… crud. I’m due for a new helmet in about 4 months and idk if I should stick with my AYR8 (which fits me superbly apart from being old) or take a chance on the Halo…

My helmets came in at #4 and #6. Definitely not upset about that lol. Eager to keep an eye out for more results.

I know this study doesn’t touch on it, but is the general rule of thumb to still replace every 5 years ? Obviously sooner if you’ve been involved in a fall.

When MIPS because available I threw out my Tipperary Sportage (ranked #5) to get a Tipperary Windsor for safety reasons, assuming the MIPS was better. I’m pretty annoyed.

They did- it came in at #15. The Ayr8 came in at #7.

I said this in one of the other threads, but when my mom needed a new helmet, I basically bullied her into a MIPS. Her Tipp Windsor is down at the bottom of the list and I may be fired as her daughter. I do believe that the technology is valuable and I would be really curious to hear one of the VA Tech researchers explain their thoughts on why so many of the MIPS helmets are in the bottom half. Me, knowing nothing, can only suspect that just because you can do a thing does not mean you do the thing well- in other words just because you have the technology in your helmet does not mean that the rest of the helmet design was optimized to make best use of the technology.

It’s there! Ranked 15.

I need a new every day helmet and based on this I’m going to try the Tuffrider carbon fiber. Ranked #2 and less than $100. Can’t beat that!

I had a helmet company employee tell me that it was less about the age of the helmet and more about the number of hours you had actually used it.

So somebody who rode once a week for an hour could go a lot longer between replacements than somebody who rode eight hours a day, six days a week.

I thought it was great that two of the three top rated ones were under $100.

Thank you and @Renn_aissance for helping me see what my fried brain couldn’t!

Yikes. Looks like I will be buying a new helmet… right after I just bought a new (MIPS) helmet. Fun!

I just bought my daughter a Tipperary MIPS helmet. Can’t believe how low it scored!!! It was a small fortune.

My helmet was middle of the pack. Will be replacing next year to one of the top 5 helmets dependent on fit.

On the upside? It’s the holiday gift giving season. I guess all my “fun” Christmas present requests will be usurped by more practical ones. At least there are high scoring cheaper helmets to be had!

Trying out one of the Top 7 (I have #8 the Trauma Void Lynx, but not the eventing version…) I also used to have the CO AYR8 which fit well.

I’ve always wondered if Champion fits my head (roundish oval here) … I like a deeper fit like the CO AYR8 so I’ll have to see how it fits.

Guess I can return it if it really doesn’t fit… off to order a Champion … good thing I am moving to an eventing barn

Not sure what to do with my newer (less than 20 rides) CO MY PS MIPS … 34 our of 40 isn’t cutting it for me…

I literally just bought a new OneK :woman_facepalming:
Isn’t it amazing that the #3 helmet is $50? I’m excited to be able to tell my students’ parents that they can buy a cheap helmet with the dial fit and it’s actually safer than the expensive ones!

As a CO MyPS wearer for the last 3 years, I am also very concerned by this - I cannot believe this helmet was at the bottom of the list, along with so many other MIPS models.

Calabasas Saddlery did post something about this testing being too limited bc the testing does not account for different head shapes, and said there will always be gaps in testing when the same head model is used. I want to hear from CO about this… I bought that helmet because of its touted safety and MIPS… I’m also not sure why MIPS has improved safety so drastically in other sports, but seemingly not in riding - wondering if this testing is able to sufficiently include safety benefits for the MIPS feature.
