If anyone has or has seen progeny from these stallions what are they like,movement/brains/type any opinions good or bad would love to know, Thanks!
I have a 2018 Hanoverian foal by Grey Top, he was Top Jumper foal at his inspection last year and awarded a Gold Medal. The dam is short and square framed (Fabriano/Graf Douglas/Lugano I), he added frame/height and very good movement, the canter in particular is improved. He is a very good type, lovely head but the dam also has a very good head (8). Didn’t improve her saddle position, withers could be better but that might improve with age. He is quite tall, already 15.1 1/2 as a long yearling out of a mare that is barely 15.3 and added a lot more length in the body and legs. I would not match him with a long-backed mare. The foal is also one who started with quite a narrow chest, and looked to toe-out but he’s starting to spring out and as he grows wider in the chest his legs look better and better but had me concerned initially. Great hind end, he’s had a single jump session and looks like he will have nice form. Temperament is easygoing, he’s a fast-learner and looks to please. Not a puppy-dog type, but quietly friendly and curious. Bold enough that he doesn’t really care what the other horses are doing, he is confident and will walk up to interesting objects. His canter/gallop is excellent, with a very good trot. Photos/videos on my website www.shallowbrookfarms.ca
I didn’t get to see her, but another Grey Top at the MPT at Parkwood this past week scored a “10” for her jump. I think they are slower-maturing horses, based on what I have observed but very top jumpers with good temperament.
I have also seen some very nice foals and young horses by Viscount, they were typey with good movement and very athletic, perhaps somewhat “hot”. Viscount is definitely an interesting stallion, but perhaps more of a “refiner” vs Grey Top who is a very tall, solid stallion. It’s really going to depend on what mare you are breeding to, and what you are looking to add?
I’ve seen the Grey Top yearling that @Somekindawonderful bred (I think she meant to say he was a 2018 foal) and his canter, in my opinion, is hack-winning…just lovely. He’s really, really nice!
my friend has a fancy viscount. good mover and jumper. pretty chill for a young guy
your Grey Top colt @Somekindawonderful looks Super! I was wondering if Grey Top threw a little heavier, I’m looking to breed an eventer type which is why I find Viscount so interesting as a sire, but am a huge fan of Gentleman (by Grey Top) so have been considering him as well, really appreciate the feedback!
