Has anyone ever used a vit c supplement when trying to heal a ligament injury and which one?
I haven’t heard of vitamin c. But chia seeds can really help provide amino acids and collagen to help heal.
Sorry, not really the information you were looking for.
Vitamin C is water soluble and any excess is expressed in the urine. This is why your own urine is so yellow after taking vit C supplements. I’d analyze your horse’s diet and see what he’s getting, and supplement to the daily requirements without going too overboard, because excess will just be expelled.
100gm (a bit less than 1/4lb) has 917mg lysine (less than 1gm, the average horse needs around 30gm), 90mg methionine, and just not much in the context of what horses need.
Vitamin C is supportive of collagen production, so may help.
For my ligament recovery, my vet recommended: hyaluronic acid (150mg) and glucosamine (15k). Nothing about vitamin C – but I believe cosequin has it in their products. And I do think cosequin works. Good luck!
