Vit E suggestions

As the title suggests what vitamin E supplement would you suggest.
I am in Canada so not all products are available.
Thanks

Best bang for your buck are the human natural vitamin E capsules. Usually cheapest at cost. Extra bonus points if you can stock up during their twice per year sale (maybe coming up soon, the other date is usually about October).

Do the math per IU. And yes, they will eat the capsules just tossed into their food (or at least my food hounds do!)

I really like the liquid Vitamin E from Smartpak. It always ships safely and is a great deal if you purchase the bottle instead of the liquidpacks

Seconding the human capsules, even my fussy filly doesn’t seem to notice when she chomps them down. I wet my feeds and they start to disintegrate reasonably quickly in water.

My horses pick the people gel caps out, even the (very) eager eater.

The powder or pellets from Santa Cruz have been my go to for years (although unsure if they ship to Canada?)

I use the Santa Cruz Natural Vitamin E Powder. I give less than the directions indicate because there are good levels of (mostly synthetic) Vit. E in several other things my horse eats. So the Santa Cruz lasts a long time and it kind of just goes away into the mash I feed.

I’m also not sure if it’s available in Canada though.

Do you mean Costco has the cheapest?

I came across a Vitamin E product from Purica that has 28g Vit E in a serving size of 1tbsp (93g). So 4,268 IU? If I use Mad Barn’s numbers I get 1,706.59 IU I freely admit I’m not that clever so I’m hoping someone can tell me why I’m wrong and get 2 different answers.

I’m in Ontario and feed vitamin E so I’m familiar with what’s available up here.

I like the Herbs for Horses Vit E/Selenium product, which is very palatable.

The MadBarn vitamin E single ingredient product is also good and reasonably-priced. It doesn’t have any filler or flavour but most horses seem to eat it pretty well. If you go with MadBarn feel free to use my discount code to save a bit: 5%-OFF-FROM-MARISSA-H

If you’ve got a picky eater and your horse can have some sugar (ie. not IR), Greenhawk’s Greenline product smells delicious and my horse gobbled it up. It’s not natural vitamin E, but one scoop provides over 3000 IU and I was only supplementing with about 2000IU of natural vit E, so I figure it’s about the same. It’s also on sale right now during Greenhawk’s spring warehouse sale - 30% off until Sunday.

Are you talking about this product?

It has 2.85 g vitamin e in a 9.3 g scoop.

1 mg is 1.49 iu.

2.85 g = 2850 mg.

2850 mg * 1.49 iu = 4246.5 iu.

Where are you getting a calculation or total from madbarn on this particular product? Curious why what you’re seeing there is so different!

They use synthetic E, which means the 2036IU becomes more like 1364 (not terrible, just not 2000), and comes with 1mg Se. The combination of Se means you really can’t increase the dosage a lot without knowing the horse’s blood level of Se. I don’t recommend combination E/Se products for this reason without blood work showing the amount in X serving (1 scoop, 2 scoops, whatever) is suitable.

That said, an extra 1mg of Se isn’t a problem for most horses, but it’s somethign to be aware of, and look at all the things you’re feeding to make sure you’re not adding “just” 0.5 and 1.0 and 0.75 here and there and there, on top of what’s in the fortified feed

Close, it’s 4248IU in their 1 scoop serving size of 2.85gm (2850mg) of Vit E

I can’t find the Purica Vit E in MB’s database, just a few other Purica products. The closest I find is the Dr Reed’s 30, which is a v/m product, which has 1782 IU of E.

Sorry, I was lazy with the numbers and just used 1.5 conversion

According to Mad Barn 1 scoop (1.67g) = 1,000 IU. The Guaranteed Analysis for the concentration is 600,000 IU/kg

So Mad Barn says: 1.67g (sc) = 1,000 IU
Purica says 2.85g (1 sc) = 4,248 IU

If I plug the number 2.85g into Mad Barn’s Guaranteed Analysis (you can change the serving size) I come up with 1,706.59 IU.

can you link to the Purica Vit E on Madbarn? I still can’t find it LOL I searched the feed database, and the site in general

Are you looking at just a general vitamin e powder on Mad Barn? Because one scoop of the Purica power isn’t 1.67 g. It’s 9.3 g.

On their website Purica says in that 9.3g scoop serving, the actual amount of Vit E is 2.85g and the rest is Inulin to get 9.3g I thought that’s what they meant.

Sorry, I should’ve specified. I got the calculations directly from the Mad Barn’s bag of Vit E. Guaranteed Analysis ‘calculation’. I’m not explaining this very well.

I went to Mad Barn’s Vit E product and scrolled down to their Guaranteed Analysis for MB Vit E and plugged in 2.85g

Very kind thank you.

Madbarn Omniety supply’s 8500 IU vitamin E, is that a bare minimum, should a bit more be added?

I think it’s 8,500 IU/kg or for a serving size 200g yielding 1020 IU

Why are you expecting the mad barn product and the Purica product to contain the same vitamin e per scoop or per gram?

Or am I really misunderstanding your concern with the values not matching.

They’re different products.

Ah, yeh
I get it
I see where the differences lie. Conc. is different so their calculation wouldn’t apply. Duh. Sorry about that. I was just pleasantly surprised that one scoop from Purica would give you 4,248 IU. That’s pretty good.
