About two months ago, my miniature schnauzer presented with a heat tilt, walking in circles, and falling over when he’d shake. We took him straight away to the vet and at first she thought it was vestibular syndrome (disease?). After checking his ears very carefully, the vet actually found something in there, which she took out, and he was on antibiotics and prednisone for a couple weeks. A few days into his treatment he was back to normal.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago and the head tilt, walking in circles, and mild ataxia have returned. Took him back to the vet and they thought it was more likely the vestibular stuff going on. They did have us go through another round of prednisone, but it hasn’t really worked as it did last time.
So far we haven’t had any x-ray diagnostics to see if a tumor can be ruled out.
Would vitamin E help with this? If we were to try it to see, what sort of dose would we give him? He’s a 15-lb little guy . . . and old, very old. He is otherwise happy and in good spirits and still has his appetite and does his happy bunny run every now and then.
