Vitamin & Mineral Supplements

What vitamin/mineral supplement does everyone like? In particular I am looking at Vita Plus or Mega Cell, both seem pretty similar, wondering if anyone has experience with these?

(My horses are older and stay fat without grain, pleasure riding, but at this point they are mainly pasture ornaments because I’ve been lazy this year…)

Horsetech’s High Point Grass/Mixed Hay supplement. I’ve used this a long time and have been happy with it.

I only buy supplements from Horsetech since they guarantee them or you get a full refund, you can get taste samples, they will add flavoring to them if you have a picky eater (I do), & it’s always free shipping.

What part of the country are you in? What sort of forage do they get?

Where I am in Southern California, CA Trace Plus and AZ Copper Complete are popular and generally well balanced for horses here where there is little fresh grass, but lots of iron.

I’m a fan of Ucklele’s EquiVM. Fairly inexpensive, no iron, palatable.

Horsetech all the way.

if you are in California, then “California Trace” is a great supp too.

TC Lite for easy keepers.

I use Micro-Phase by Kentucky Performance Products. It’s designed for easy keepers on a hay only diet.

California Trace is not necessarily only for California horses. I am on the East coast and feed this to my horses as it matches up with what our forage is lacking too.

Have used MegaCell in the past and it’s very reasonably priced but I see a better difference in my horses with California Trace unlike with MegaCell.

You’ve got to at least know what your general area’s soil/forage is lacking before choosing a supplement. Of course, testing your very own forage is best but I can’t speak to that as I continue to procrastinate doing that myself…

Thanks everyone!

Another vote for HorseTech and if there is something additional you want added to a supplement, they can create a custom supplement for you. It has saved me so much time and money.

Heres another vote for HorseTech High point for grass fed horses:). I’ve been feeding it for four years and give it five stars.

this product does not have added iron and has a maximum guaranteed NSC value of 4.25%. Great for my metabolic horse and great for the other easy keeper in case he’s thinking about developing insulin issues:)

California Trace Plus. It’s not just for California horses - I live in coastal South Carolina.
