Vomiting from Bee Sting?

Our Rat Terrier/Dachshund mix got stung today. I got the stinger out within about 2 minutes (had to catch her, figure out the problems and get stinger out). She started vomiting followed by ears itching and bridge of nose swelling. We got her Benadryl pretty quickly but I have not seen a dog vomit from a bee sting. She has not tolerance for pain so it may have just been that she was so upset.

I am going to vet tomorrow to pick up other stuff so I will talk to her about keeping emergency supplies on hand in case the reaction gets worse with future stings but I wanted to get feedback today from other people. Any comments?

Sorry this happened, talking with your vet about future emergency plans is a good idea.

My shepherd used to kill and eat bees, hornets and wasps. I had a terrible time trying to stop him because he would actually go hunting for them. He never had an allergic reaction of any sort, he must have built up his resistance with the number of them he ate.

I think you are right, and the vomiting was related to fear and adrenaline, but the vet will know for sure.

Jingles that your pup develops an aversion to bees, and not a taste for them.

Yikes CT

Yes - and write the cc amount on the bottle so you don’t have to do the math while in a panic.

Animals can vomit from an allergic reaction. One of my cats had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine and the first symptom was vomiting, followed by facial swelling. Luckily the reaction happened while we were still at the vet clinic, he almost died.

Allergic reactions can get worse with repeated exposure, so definitely talk to your vet about what to do if he gets stung again.
