Voodoo Song & Linda Rice

Voodoo Song, trained by Linda Rice, just ran two races this week with two wins all within the process of 4 days at Saratoga.

I know there is a lot of flack in the industry for being cushy with thoroughbreds, lack of stamina, but Voodoo Song certainly dispels that claim.

Although, 2 races within 4 days does seem like a bit much?

He raced 7/22 in a Claiming race at Saratoga, finishing first. He then raced 7/26 in an Allowance at Saratoga, finishing 1st.

Foaled in 2014, He is by English Channel and out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Mystic Chant. He has a track record of 7 starts, 3 wins, 1 second.

Considering that he won both races, it looks like the quick turnaround worked just fine for him.

2 races in 4 days seems like a bit much to me, although I ran a horse back once within a week (won the 7th race one Friday and the 6th race the next Friday) and he won both races.

the results state that he was really rank on the last win. Head sky high in the air “stargazing” around the firs turn. Didn’t settle until the backstretch. Given he was that much of a handful first turn; I am surprised he won. But maybe they entered him again because he was so rank and was being a handful.

Regardless, it worked out for the better, interested to see what the turn around time is for his next race.

You must have missed Royal Ascot. A number of horses ran twice over the five days, including Thomas Hobson who won the 2-1/2 mile Ascot Stakes on the Tuesday and was 2nd in the 2-5/8 mile Queen Alexandra Stakes on the Saturday.
It’s not unusual for horses that run in the 2 mile Melbourne Cup G1 to prep in the 1-1/4 mile MacKinnon Stakes G1 four days previously, and a number of horses have won both races.
