It would be amazing to see an equestrian get recognized for this honor.

She is winning by a landslide now!
Thanks for the link even though I didn’t vote for Beezie
Turns out both my choices are 1%'ers… sigh
Lol the tweets will be epic if she wins. “Why is a horse rider carrying the flag?”, “Horse riding isn’t a sport!”.
I wish our governing bodies read the actual article before boosting this as a “vote for her to win!” Even if she wins the poll that does NOT mean she will carry the flag. The poll is just for fun, it says right in the first paragraph that the flag bearer is picked by the other athletes.
Heck, I’m not too concerned about Beezie winning. I believe that by voting for her my leg position will miraculously improve.

Matz carried for closing in 1996 but as you can see lots and lots of sports are never represented. I’m actually shocked that there’s only been like one gymnast…possibly they would fall over haha so if it’s beezie that’s cool but it’s not like e questrians are any more underrepresented than anyone else.
I voted for Kim Rhode, who is probably the most awesome shotgun shooter ever and a very cool person.

This. I thought it was a fun little poll, and then people started posting as if it was the deciding factor. And I thought, “I with they read it, but ok.”
Then USEF posted it and I was pretty disappointed. Really?
The USEF post was annoying. When I saw it not a single person on Facebook had bothered to read the article and seemed to think their vote was actually going to do something.
JER, she was one of my 1%'ers
Kristen forget_her_last_name the road cyclist was the other
You can vote an unlimited amount of times.
Just FYI.
So you can vote for all the 1%'s and then vote for Beezie.
Beezie actually does have a leg to stand on to be considered to carry it. This is her 4th Olympics and she has medaled in ALL 3 of her prior Olympic experiences. And she’s listed as the oldest member of the US team.

Well, Beezie didn’t win–Michael Phelps won!
I’m my family he is know as the “dog nabber”. My niece went to high school with Michael. She had a party one night when her parents were out (it was with permission–since birth that girl has consistently been “the only adult in the room”)
Michael and his fiends were not invited but showed up anyway and when niece asked them to leave, they did, but took the family dog with them!
The dog loved nothing better than a car ride so there was some suspicion that the dog was culpable in his own abduction!
Of course the dog was returned, but Michael will always be know as the dog nabber to us.

I wish Gigi had been among the choices to carry the flag. See why here:

Are you sure? I thought the US did not medal in show jumping in London, wasn’t Beezie on that team? I think she has individual medals from Olympics and WEG but I didn’t think it was from London, maybe I am wrong.
Regardless I would have loved to see her carry the flag, maybe next time.

I just checked COTH’s Olympic preview issue and Beezie DID NOT medal in all three Olympics, she won a team medal in 2004 and team and individual medals in 2008 but nothing in 2012, London. The article you reference only says she is a three time medal winner, but she won them in two Olympics and did not medal in the last Olympics. I hope she gets her four this year.

I hope she gets #4 and #5 - team and individual!

I hope so too, both GOLD! Although I have a feeling it is McLain’s year for an individual medal, Azur is just an amazing animal and deserves to be an Olympic champion.

Frequently the women’s gymnastics in particular have to be ready to perform the first day after the opening ceremonies and the team coaches prefer their athletes not participate in the Opening Ceremonies. (I’m not sure if this has loosened up at all given the intense scrutiny the sport’s had, but the coaches are often extremely strict about keeping them on a very tight schedule and not blowing a lot of energy on things like the ceremony. And Martha Karolyi is still head of the team even though Bela’s retired…)
