V'tropez? Anyone have foals by him?

I was told he showed in the Pulsar class in 1996 and that he did show with Candace King. But other than that I couldn’t get much info.

I thought he did the Pan Am games?

I saw a wonderful video years and years ago produced by Bill Steinkraus. He addressed the question of rideability and pro’s horses. He said people had complained to him about horses being ‘beaten’ over a jump at jumper shows and lower level events. Apparently this person thought it would get much worse as the jumps got higher and they said they thought it was horrible that you had to make the horses jump.

Bill’s answer was that you MIGHT be able to beat a horse over a low jump for a while, before it would just plain start refusing, but that there’s no way you can beat a horse over a jump that is so high it can’t see over it. The top horses - and the pro’s horses - are the ones that want to go over that jump as much as the rider does - - - the ones that LOOK for the next jump - - - ask their riders ‘which one, which one???’

They’re smart, they love to jump, they’re quick, they’re careful and not all ammies can ride them.

I used to ride an ex-showjumper at riding school in England. One day the instructor was talking to me while I was walking around at the end of the ring. All of a sudden he said, ‘Watch out, you’re heading for a jump. He’s pricked up his ears and he’ll jump anything in front of him whether you’re ready or not’. These are the horses that LOVE to go in the ring, look for the next jump and find their own stride. They are rideable, rideable, rideable, but they may be too quick and have too much ‘snap’ for many ammies, but they’re good for the good ammies and the pros.

I’ve ridden ex-steeplechase horses around courses. Man are they fast. So fast that they can scare a lower level or timid rider, but I’ve NEVER had one refuse a jump. They may take them fast and flat but they never refuse and I’ve never seen one knock one down. But, they’re very rideable. How on earth would someone get a top jumper around a tight course of jumps you can’t even see over, or around a miles long steeple chase course if these horses weren’t rideable. I don’t want the kind of rideable that some people talk about that’s only good for a timid rider. That’s no fun!

I guess I should have asked what makes him a pro ride? I am a good rider and I do want to produce a top level competitor but I want to be able to ride it.

My mare raced and I did not get to ride her much as she broke her hip however she is kind and smart but she also can be hot and she is sensitive. So maybe its not the best match for her.

I am already breeding her this year to More Than Luck was just loving the TB lines he offers. I will also take a peek at Knock Out.

Viney - does Knock Out have a website?

Let me see if I can scare up the right Chronicle.

I really liked the website better when it was in .pdf with all the ads.

They are rideable, rideable, rideable, but they may be too quick and have too much ‘snap’ for many ammies,

That is exactly how mine are. You could be sitting on air if you don’t watch it. Not because they are being bad, but because they are that quick.

EquineLVR, today’s trappy jumper courses and the technical expertise required, really needs a horse that can do things that way. I really don’t think a lot of people realize that and that may be at the forefront of why U.S. breeders aren’t getting much into the big rings.

Please don’t think that I was putting you down.

Thanks Tri…

Horses name is Knock Wood, not Knock Out. He is by Olisco, out of Cool Twist. Started showing in 2007 and has won at level 5 jumpers. His full sister is Journalistic News who also started showing in 2007. And there is another sibling that has won a GP and come second in another.

(I’ve misplaced the mag again, so his name is missing as well.)

Farm name is Newsprint Farm; contact name is Danny Magill. Email is newsprintfarm@aol.com. No website. PH here: 215-297-5188. He also stands Hermes du Murier (Licensed SF) and D’Accord.

Since we have all the xx blood here it would seem we would have the edge on breeding quick reacting horses-I just dont think we breed the volume to be competitive–but that is a different thread (or one we already had I think! :-))

And I agree that a quick horse can be very rideabilty (there are the only kind I seem to have!) --I am thinking of rideabilty in terms of kicking out when doing a course or flipping the head so you can touch the mouth-or being questionable at steering–etc, -that is what I see as affecting rideability-And I am not sure even a pro likes having to deal with that if faced with a choice of equally talented horses.

Has anyone bred to him or seen him?

He has a very interesting pedigree - especially with the coveted Twist TB lines.[/QUOTE]

I know we are messaging to an old thread… we have a Coming 4 year old V’Tropez son.
