Wait, really?

Sorry but I like my cushy seat, thigh blocks, sticky calf leather, plastic stirrups and my fluffy knee rolls that go squish… I think I may just add some walker hand rails for true balance and it could be a saddle for old people with aches and pains like me.

Looking at that saddle I would break something…

I had the same reaction this morning! When I read practice saddle. I pictured a flat, blockless, kneeroll-less, situation. Not that. Never that.

I think that is a really neat idea for a practice saddle. I am sure it is great for Eq riders, especially those who are working on their position and strength without stirrups. Pretty neat! You would definitely need someone around to give you a leg up, or a really tall mounting block!

This morning I had to shake the sleep out of my eyes to make sure I was seeing it right. Maybe there is something I’m missing, but…strange.

Well, we all know that there’s no way those old flat Crosby saddles will fit any of the “impossible to fit” horses that are everywhere these days!

Thank goodness Beval has come to our rescue!

I’d be interested to know how they are selling. Are the stores stocking them? Or online only?

Well if the price suddenly drops by a grand we’ll know they aren’t moving quite that fast!

I’ve now watched the video 5 times and still don’t get what it achieves that I can’t achieve with the good old fashioned approach of riding without stirrups or bringing back my Crosby flat saddle from when I was a junior.

“What ever happened to simply taking your feet out of your stirrups and crossing them over the withers??”

But, I am not flexible enough to cross my feet over the withers. :)

Eeesh, if you build it, they will buy it? What a price, too !

:lol::lol::lol:

As for this saddle, PT Barnum was right.

I am flexible enough to do the cross, but I don’t think I could stay on very long…

Clearly you are far more flexible than I am!!

Well, I couldn’t get my feet much past the withers - they would be crossed right up on top of them. As soon as the horse moved, I’d be a goner.

Also possible to buy this thing and still suck as a rider.[/QUOTE]

ROFL!!! hey…I resemble that remark

Geez for $3K you could get a nice OTTB and have a whole other horse to practice on!

I truly do not get the claims, why would you get better balanced and stronger in this saddle? Just because there is no flap? What does that do? How would that be any different than say, a monoflap?

" We have an awful lot of consignment saddles laying around… Hey I’ve got an idea!"

I would buy this is if it were $300, maybe. $3000? Noooooo thank you.

It doesn’t seem to be about riding without stirrups, but that more “close contact” feel - maybe innovative and novel to people who grew up riding in saddles that feel like couches, but to those of us who grew up with those pancake flat saddles, no such!

ETA: I actually do have a “couch” saddle now - finally!!! But I thank my pancake saddle for giving me some semblance of a seat and a ‘stick’

Lack of knee rolls and/or blocks.
…why didn’t they just cut off the whole flap, though? Seems pretty useless to me. I’m perfectly happy with my trainer’s beval from the early 80’s… pancake flat plain flap. Just the way I like it.

Well, it looks like if they cut off the whole flap your leg would be directly on top of the billets and girth buckles. Ow. Even with long billets, (so the buckles were way down yonder) that would be uncomfortable.

I will ride bareback for $0.00 and save my $3k, thank you very much.

Because the girth has to attach somewhere.
